The Collector

You keep the record. The record does not get worn.

You kept the box, the dust bag and the little printed card, and you can date a piece to a season by the label alone. The wardrobe is a record of what came in, from where, in which year, and at what price. Nothing leaves it.

Here is the part you will not enjoy. A third of what you own has never been outside the flat, and some of it never will be, because wearing it would change it. You are running a small private museum with a staff of one, and the staff does not get to touch the exhibits.

In its favour: you are the only person you know who still has the coat everyone else sold in 2019, and in about four years that will read as judgment rather than as storage.
