The Researcher
You know the mill, the gauge and the cutter. You own none of it.
You know which mill wove it, what the yarn weighs, the year the pattern changed and why the older run fits shorter in the body. There are four tabs open from March. There is nothing in the bag.
Research feels like taste and most of it is deferral. While you were reading the third thread about shrinkage, your size sold out, and the piece you would have worn every day this winter went to somebody who knew a tenth of what you know and moved on a Tuesday.
The correction is small and you have already worked it out yourself: buy the one you have read about the longest, in the size you actually are, this week.
What you'd actually buy
- The oxford cloth shirt you have read about for two years, in your real size
- A grey wool trouser you tried on in March and left on the rail
- One knit in the eight gauge you keep bringing up
- Nothing else this season, and that is the plan
