Raw Denim

Keeps a diary you do not get to edit.

Raw denim writes everything down and there is no edit pass. Six months in, the wallet has drawn its own outline on the back pocket, the phone has printed a pale rectangle, the knees carry combs where you crouch and honeycombs behind them. Anyone who knows how to look can read what you do all day. You took that trade without hesitating.

The awkward part is what the fades actually say. They are a record of repetition, and repetition is not character. Your jeans will prove that you sat the same way, walked the same route and carried the same phone for two years running. Some people call that a life, and on the good days you are one of them.

Wrong for pale furniture in the first three months, and wrong for anyone who wants to look the same in June as in January.
