Toronto Salt Line

Your boots keep a record of February, and so do you.

You live with a fifty degree annual swing and you have made peace with it by owning two complete wardrobes and no opinions at all about spring. Remote start, a PATH route you could walk blind, a tide mark of salt across the boots by the second week of January, and a shoe change in the bag from November through April.

What you will not want to hear: the cold has become an excuse. You bought exactly one good coat and then let every other decision default to whatever is warm, and warm is the lowest bar in clothing. The shoe change means the good shoes are always somewhere else, which is a strange way to own good shoes.

Dress for the eight months, not the four.
