Accessibility

within should work for everyone, whatever device you use and however you use it. This page says what we do, what we are still fixing, and how to get help. within is run by Lucas Bruno and Harman Singh, a general partnership.
Our standard
We work to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA on shopwithin.co and our apps. We also aim to meet Ontario's accessibility law (the AODA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
We are a small team and the work is not finished. We test new pages as we build them and fix what we find.
What we do
- Photos are described. Every product photo has a written description: the designer, the piece, the boutique and its city. We write it ourselves from the boutique's listing, so a screen reader never reads out a file name or nothing at all.
- Keyboards work. Buttons and links are real buttons and links, and each shows a clear outline when it has the keyboard's focus. The menu keeps focus inside while it is open and closes with Escape.
- Pages are labelled. Pages use headings, landmarks and labels, so screen readers can move around them. We label form boxes so a screen reader can name them.
- Text can be read. We check text against its background for contrast, and fix what falls short.
- Motion can be calmed. If your device asks for reduced motion, within turns its animations down.
What we are still fixing
On 6 October 2026 an automated audit scored our home page 96 out of 100 and a product page 89. It found faint text in two footers and a closed menu that a keyboard could still reach. We fixed both that day.
It also found some tap targets smaller than they should be, and two links whose spoken name differs from the words on screen. We are working on those.
Boutiques' content
Boutiques send us their photos, descriptions and logos. Some descriptions use the shop's own shorthand, and a photo may not show every detail a description mentions.
We cannot change a boutique's source data, and its own website and checkout are its own. When you buy on a boutique's website, its accessibility is in its hands.
