Shopping in Brooklyn: 18 boutiques, by neighbourhood

Eighteen independent boutiques in Brooklyn carry an address we checked against the shop itself, between 27 August and 2 September 2026. They sit in eleven neighbourhoods. Eight of them publish the year they opened, and the oldest of those is 2000.

Brooklyn does not have a shopping district the way SoHo does. It has four small clusters and seven shops standing on their own, and the difference matters because the clusters can be walked and the singles have to be planned.

Every address below is on the New York directory, with the day it was last checked.

Williamsburg has four, and two are on one block of Grand Street

Amarcord Vintage Fashion, 223 Bedford Avenue. High end vintage, mostly European, with stock the shop dates from Victorian to the 2000s. Open Tuesday to Sunday, noon to seven. It opened in 2000 and its trade archive of more than 50,000 pieces is a separate room, by appointment, for stylists.

Antoinette, 119 Grand Street. Vintage from the 1950s to the 1990s, plus new work by local designers. Noon to seven Tuesday to Saturday, noon to six on Sunday. Open since 2011.

Maimoun, 111 Grand Street. Clothing, home, print and beauty in one room: Eckhaus Latta, Maryam Nassir Zadeh, Baserange, Extreme Cashmere. Twelve to seven Monday to Thursday, eleven to seven Friday and Saturday.

Malin Landaeus, 157 N 6th Street. Vintage and designer archive, open daily from eleven in the morning until nine at night, which is the longest day any shop on this list keeps. The rental showroom two doors along at 159 is by appointment.

Maimoun and Antoinette stand on the same block of Grand Street, eight numbers apart. Amarcord is the outlier, up on Bedford.

Bedford-Stuyvesant has three, and two of them serve coffee

SEED Brklyn, 1217 Bedford Avenue. Telfar and Entire Studios on the rails, with a room called The Greenhouse Cafe behind the shop. The site publishes no hours, so call before you cross the borough.

Sincerely, Tommy, 343 Tompkins Avenue. Womenswear and lifestyle with a coffee bar in the room, eight in the morning to six at night, seven days. It is the earliest opening shop in this piece by three hours.

Harold and Maude Vintage, 592 Lafayette Avenue. Vintage. The shop's own site is a single line with nothing on it, so the address is all we will print.

Carroll Gardens has two, both on Court Street

Rue Saint Paul, 313 Court Street. Sustainable and ethical labels, second hand pieces, and wardrobe rental at fifty dollars a garment with no subscription, available in the shop only. Open since 2018, closed Mondays, eleven to seven Tuesday to Saturday. Kelly Wang founded it from outside the industry.

Ven.Space, 369 Court Street. Dries Van Noten, Lemaire, The Row, Common Projects, Arc'teryx and Paraboot, in a room that opens every day from twelve to six. Fifty six numbers up Court Street from Rue Saint Paul, and the tightest edit in Brooklyn.

One street in Carroll Gardens covers wardrobe rental at fifty dollars and a rail of The Row.

Park Slope has two, both built on a house label

A. CHENG, 460 Bergen Street. Alice Cheng opened it in June 2001 and still runs her own label beside thirty other brands. Eleven to seven Tuesday to Saturday, eleven to six on Sunday and Monday.

CHRISTINE ALCALAY, 316 5th Avenue. The Christine Alcalay label with a stocked list beside it, from Suzanne Rae to Martiniano. Eleven to six, closed Mondays, and by appointment at any other hour.

Seven more, one neighbourhood each

Alter, 140 Franklin Street, Greenpoint. Men's and women's clothing from close to a hundred independent labels, open daily eleven to six, trading since February 2007. Its online shop is paused while the site is rebuilt, so this one is a walk in.

Article&, 198 Smith Street, Boerum Hill. Independent designers and the basics you wear out, open daily eleven to six. The shop's own line about itself is twenty years on Smith Street.

Cloth, 138 Fort Greene Place, Fort Greene. Contemporary womenswear: Closed, Lilla P, Sayaka Davis, Kloke, Nicholson. Seven days, twelve to seven on weekdays and twelve to six at the weekend, open since 2004.

Diane T, 174 Court Street, Cobble Hill. Designer womenswear. The shop has no working website, which is why it is easy to miss and why the address is worth having.

Erie Basin, 388 Van Brunt Street, Red Hook. Antique jewellery and furniture from the Georgian period forward, plus a house fine jewellery line made in New York. Russell Whitmore opened it in 2006. Weekdays are by appointment only and walk in Saturdays are announced on the site, so check before you make the trip to Red Hook.

Front General Store, 143 Front Street, Dumbo. Vintage clothing and jewellery, rare new old stock, tools and its own designs, with Coach, Celine, Barbour and Issey Miyake among the labels. Founded in 2012 out of the Brooklyn Flea, and open half eleven to half seven Monday to Saturday.

There is an outpost on the second floor at 147 Front and a showroom on the sixth by appointment.

Sagebrush Collective, 96 Knickerbocker Avenue, Bushwick. Vintage, ceramics and photography, with a house pottery line. The site publishes no hours and no suite number, so message the shop first.

What to check before you go

Four of these eighteen do not publish hours at all, and one of them does not publish an address. Erie Basin is appointment only on weekdays. Rue Saint Paul and Christine Alcalay close on Mondays.

The clusters are Williamsburg, Court Street in Carroll Gardens and Fifth Avenue in Park Slope. Each is one street or two. Everything else on this list is a separate trip.

Where is the best shopping in Brooklyn?

Williamsburg holds four of the eighteen, two of them eight numbers apart on the same block of Grand Street. Court Street in Carroll Gardens is the tighter walk if you want fewer, better rooms.

Are there vintage stores in Brooklyn?

Six of the eighteen are vintage or antique: Amarcord and Malin Landaeus in Williamsburg, Antoinette on Grand Street, Harold and Maude in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Front General Store in Dumbo and Sagebrush Collective in Bushwick. Erie Basin sells antique jewellery rather than clothes.

What is there to shop in Williamsburg?

Four shops on our list: Amarcord Vintage Fashion at 223 Bedford Avenue, Antoinette at 119 Grand Street, Maimoun at 111 Grand Street and Malin Landaeus at 157 N 6th Street. Two of them are vintage, one is designer archive and one stocks new independent labels.

Which Brooklyn boutiques are open on a Monday?

Nine of the eighteen publish Monday hours: Maimoun, Malin Landaeus, Sincerely, Tommy, Ven.Space, A. CHENG, Alter, Article&, Cloth and Front General Store. Amarcord, Antoinette, Rue Saint Paul and Christine Alcalay are closed on Mondays, and Erie Basin is by appointment.
