What four makers publish

Dr. Martens is the only one of the four that uses the words biker boot. The Anistone Hi was USD 200 on its US site on 20 September 2026. The brand says the boot is Goodyear welted, with the welt lines heat sealed, on its Bex sole.

That Bex sole is the DMS sole plus 2cm, with deep cleats and a grooved edge.

Frye listed the Kate Moto Mid at USD 348 the same day. Waxy pull up leather, leather lining, leather outsole. Shaft 9.5 inches, calf 12.6 inches, heel 2.4 inches, and no construction method published.

Rick Owens sells a Dr. Martens collaboration, the Quad Sole Pull On Boot, at EUR 420 on its European site. Mid calf, steel toe cap, side zipper, nubuck cow leather upper, quad sole in PVC.

R13 listed the Strapped Skinny Ankle Heeled Boot at USD 1,295, style R13S081. Heel 3.75 inches, shaft 5.9 inches. No sole type, no lining, no country of manufacture.

How the sizes convert

Dr. Martens says sizing "can differ between silhouettes" but that "most run true to size". Its boots stretch in width with wear and not in length.

Between sizes, its own advice is to go up: "it's always better if the fit is a little bit bigger rather than too small". Add an insole to take up the half size.

Rick Owens prints a warning in capitals. The size on the product page is a UK size, not EU or US. Its chart runs UK 3 to 9 against EU 36 to 43.

R13 publishes a US to EU chart only, US 5 at EU 35 up to US 12 at EU 42. Frye publishes nothing at all: no size guide, no chart, no fit note anywhere on its site.

Breaking a pair in

Dr. Martens is the only one of the four with a published method, and it opens by telling you not to call it a break in.

Wear thick socks, or layer two pairs. Massage the leather by hand, which the brand says works like wearing them without the blisters. Stuff the boots with newspaper between wears for the first fortnight.

Use heel grips. Then wear them every other day rather than daily.

The cheapest four were an MM6 Maison Margiela and Dr. Martens eight eye edition in burgundy at CAD 249, and three Gao boots at CAD 279 to CAD 299. The dearest was a Guidi 310WZ leather piped front zip boot at CAD 2,650.

Before you pay

Get the shaft height, the calf circumference and the sole type in writing. Ask whether the sole can be replaced.
