Where to buy Guidi in Toronto, and how the sizing runs

Guidi publishes its own list of boutiques, and in August 2026 that list carried exactly two Canadian addresses. One sits in Richmond, British Columbia. The other is WDLT117, 7 St Thomas Street, Unit 101, the only one in this city. Everything else that comes back when you search the brand ships from somewhere else.

On 30 August 2026 our database counted 52 published Guidi products on that floor, 126 variants in stock, from $345 to $2,750 CAD. A PL9 suede boot at $2,250. A 992 lace up derby mule in black at $1,275. A 5302N Soldato derby in red at $749, against $1,495 on the shop's own page. That is one morning's reading, not a standing shelf: the small GO02 handle bag in olive was on it at $1,580 and reads sold out now.

The leather is horse, and horse is not cordovan

The 992X classic derby is "100% Horse full grain leather". The PL2 Palombaro front zip boot is "100% Horse reverse leather", the same hide run flesh side out. The 19M mountain boot goes to calf, "100% Calf reverse leather".

That word sends people to cordovan, which is a different thing. Horween Leather calls shell cordovan "a very specific leather from a particular part of a horsehide", the oval shells tanned, stuffed, shaved and polished over at least six months. The Tannery Row, which distributes it, gives the anatomy: a membrane in the hindquarters, reached by shaving away the flesh side.

Guidi is not doing that. It sells you the hide itself, grain out or grain in.

Ponte Buggianese, and no varnish anywhere

The tannery is Conceria Guidi Rosellini, born in Pescia, in Tuscany, in 1896, and two of its three founders left their names on the door: Guido Guidi and Giovanni Rosellini, not Gino Ulivo. The works are now at Via Stignanese 76 in Ponte Buggianese, and Ruggero Guidi runs it.

The tanning is vegetable, and the house is direct about what that costs a buyer. Its shop page says the veins, scratches and grain differences on a pair "should not be considered as defects but the result of a vegetable tanning without varnishing". No pigment coat, no film to even the grain out. Whatever the hide did while the animal was alive, you are buying.

The shoe is built first and dyed second

On its 788Z back zip boot page, Guidi warns that its natural dyeing methods change how the metal hardware oxidises, so the effect differs from one pair to the next. Read that twice. The zip is already in the boot when the colour goes on.

WDLT117 says the same about the Soldato derby in its own copy: "Each boot is piece dyed resulting in beautiful tonal variations." Which is why the upper, the lining and the leather sole come out one continuous tone, where a conventional shoe shows a seam of colour where the sole meets the upper.

The tannery is honest about the sequel: "The skin, the colour of the leather and the peculiarities will change with use and will evolve with the owner." A black stays black. Everything else moves, and if you want it to look in two years like the photograph that sold it, buy something else.

The welt is not one welt

Most of the line is Goodyear welt on a leather sole: the 992X derby, the PL2, the 9086 square toe boot on its stacked double heel, the 788Z on a stacked double leather heel. Two models are not. The 19M mountain boot and the GR02V Big Daddy are Norwegian welt on a Vibram outsole, the pair to ask about if the shoe has to survive a Toronto February.

A welt means the sole is stitched to a strip and the strip to the upper, so a cobbler can replace it without touching the boot. It also means the shoe arrives on a slab of leather that has never been bent.

Guidi prints the fit advice on each shoe, and the shoes disagree with each other.

The size chart will not help you, the model code will

Guidi's own size guide is a bare conversion table, EU 34 to 42 against UK 1 to 9 against US 4 to 12, with no fit advice anywhere on it. It also stops five sizes short of the boots, which are sold to 47. The advice lives on the individual product pages, one sentence each, and they do not agree.

Checked in August 2026: the 992X derby, the PL2 Palombaro, the 9086 square toe boot and the GR02V all read "Fits true to size". The 788Z back zip boot and the 19M mountain boot read "Fits one size smaller".

So there is no Guidi size. There is a 788Z size and a PL2 size, and a 42 in one may want a 43 in the other. Which is the reason to stand in a room with both boxes open, and what designer shoe sizing turns on.
