Where to buy Homme Plisse and Pleats Please in Toronto

On 30 August 2026 our own database counted 83 published Homme Plissé pieces and 31 Pleats Please pieces on one floor at WDLT117, 7 St Thomas Street, Unit 101, with another eleven under the plain Issey Miyake line. Those are a reading of one morning, not a standing shelf. Search the brand with a city attached and what comes back ships to you. This is the room you can walk into.

The shop opened in 2019 in a gutted Victorian brick townhouse, 3,500 square feet of retail across two levels at the southeast corner of Sultan Street, and Pleats Please was on the buy at the opening. Seven years on it is the house signature.

The four lines are four different arguments

Homme Plissé, launched in 2013, is the men's pleating line and the widest rail in the building. The MC Hooded Jacket in black is $850, the MC Mesh Polo $970, a pleated jacket $1,295, and the Duvet Jacket in yellow tops the line at $2,650. Pleats Please, first shown for spring summer 1994, is the women's line, running $480 to $1,150 on the shop's own page this season. Both are polyester and both do the same thing to a suitcase.

The plain ISSEY MIYAKE main line is the seasonal collection: wovens, knits, actual tailoring, no promise of a pleat anywhere. The shop's designer list also carries 132 5., built in 2010 with the Reality Lab team out of origami folding structures and recycled polyester, which lies flat and rises into a garment as you put it on, and BAOBAO, the bags.

Worth saying plainly: the men's rail is nearly three times the women's. If you want Pleats Please, call first.

The pleat is pressed into the garment, not the cloth

Conventional pleating folds flat fabric, sets it, and cuts a pattern out of the pleated yardage. Issey Miyake runs it backwards: the fabric is cut, sewn and shaped before the pleats are applied. The ASU FIDM Museum, which holds the garments, puts numbers on it, describing pieces cut two and a half to three times the finished size, sewn, then laid between two sheets of paper and run through a heat set pleating machine. The fold is not decoration on the surface. It is the finished shape and the finished size at once.

That explains the sizing. A pleated panel gives across the pleats and almost nothing along them, so one number covers a wider range of bodies than a woven garment of the same nominal measurement. You are choosing length and how much air hangs off the shoulder. (The polyester is not an apology. Nothing off a plant or an animal holds a pressed fold through a Toronto February.)

The label says a number

Both pleating lines size in numbers, and the numbers do not read across the lines or onto any chart you already own. On the shop's own pages the Homme Plissé rail runs 1 through 4 plus a one size, Pleats Please 3 through 5 plus a one size. People who wear the line properly own two adjacent numbers and wear them as two silhouettes. Ask for both and put both on, which is the one thing a photograph cannot do for you.

WDLT117 books one on one appointments with a stylist and runs a service it calls WDLT117-To-Go, which drops up to six items from the website at your home to try on. Most pleating begins in flat cloth; this one begins in a finished garment.

What it does to a suitcase

Roll it along its own pleats, which is what the house tells you to do for storage anyway, and it takes almost no depth in a bag. Issey Miyake calls the cloth wrinkle resistant, quick to dry and light. It is machine washable: cold, short cycle, in a laundry net, then line dried in the shade.

The trade is that a heat set fold is undone by heat. The house is blunt about it, in its own words the pleats are not heat resistant, so no iron, no steamer, no tumble dryer. Nor should the garment live on a hanger for months, which pulls the pleat out of shape.

Before you go up there

The care label on your own piece is the authority and it varies by garment, so read it before the first wash. The other thing to settle before you pay: returns are exchange or store credit only, inside 14 days, unworn with the tags on. No cash back. Which is why you try two numbers on in the room rather than order three and send two away.
