About Issey Miyake
Issey Miyake founded the Miyake Design Studio in Tokyo in 1970 and showed his first collection in New York in 1971. He was born in Hiroshima in 1938 and died in 2022. His clothes follow one idea, a piece of cloth, and the space between that cloth and the body. Pleats Please arrived in 1993. Those garments are cut and sewn first, then pressed between paper in a heat press to set the pleats. Homme Plissé Issey Miyake, a menswear line in the same pleats, followed in 2013. Steve Jobs asked Miyake for his black turtlenecks and got about a hundred. Satoshi Kondo has designed the main line since spring 2020. He showed the spring 2026 collection in Paris in October 2025 and fall 2026 in March 2026.
