About Maison Margiela
Martin Margiela, a Belgian designer, and Jenny Meirens founded Maison Margiela in Paris in 1988. The label is known for deconstruction and unusual materials. Margiela refused to take bows or be photographed, and he answered the press by fax. The early labels were blank and white, sewn on with four white tacks. The Tabi boot was its first shoe, shown at its first show in 1988. It splits the big toe from the rest, like a Japanese tabi sock. OTB Group bought the company in 2002. Glenn Martens was named creative director in January 2025, after John Galliano. He showed the Fall 2026 collection in Shanghai on 1 April 2026.
