Boxing Day or Black Friday: when designer prices really drop

Black Friday is Friday 27 November and Boxing Day is Saturday 26 December. A women's Canada Goose Expedition parka in red at Due West shows the problem: CAD 1,695, was CAD 2,095, and only an XS left. You can check what is marked down now before you decide.

I have no Boxing Day of our own to compare, because we started reading these shelves in 2026. So this answer rests on this month's shelves, a Canadian payments company and one US price study.

More people buy on Black Friday

Black Friday was the busiest shopping day of the 2025 holiday season in Canada, by Moneris, the payments company, as Retail Insider reported on 15 January 2026. Boxing Day took less than half of Black Friday's volume, and Moneris called that a continuing decline.

December 23 reached 95% of Black Friday's volume, so the last days before Christmas are busy too. So people buy before Christmas, and fewer wait for the 26th. It says nothing about who has the lower price.

Clothes may be a little cheaper on Boxing Day

DataWeave, a company that tracks retail prices, compared more than 14,000 identical products at big US stores including Saks, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. Black Friday led in most categories, but clothes went the other way: 40.22% off on average on Boxing Day against 37.67% on Black Friday.

That gap is 2.55 points, on US department stores, in 2024. It is the best public number I could find. A bigger discount on what is left is no use if what is left is not your size.

If 128 of 190 coats are down to one size in November, December is a gamble.

What these shelves did in the last six days

We read the same designers on 2 November and 8 November 2026. Sneakers are still being cut, and coats are mostly standing still.

Canada Goose went from 72 to 69, and 45 of the 69 left were in one size. Utopia explains the sneakers: it lowered 71 prices between 3 and 6 November, and 31 of those were Jordans.

What the shops themselves show

Neither Due West's nor Outlined's Black Friday address showed a 2026 plan on 8 November. Due West's still opened its Winter Sale 2022 page, and its Boxing Day address forwarded to a Boxing Day 2023 page that no longer exists.

Outlined's Black Friday address opened a page titled Boxing Day, with 13 items on it and 8 of them marked down. So both shops have run these sales before, and neither page says what happens this year.

What I would buy when

For a winter coat, buy now or on Black Friday. The coat is on sale already, and Canada Goose's own site had no sale on our last read. A parka in your size may not be there in December.

For sneakers, you can afford to wait a little, since Jordans went from 69 markdowns to 98 in six days. If the pair is in one size and that size is yours, buy it.

For something sold in a full run of sizes, Boxing Day is a fair bet. An OUT Classic Logo zip hoodie at CAD 75, in S to 3XL, can sit in a cart for weeks with less risk than the parka. If you are shopping in Toronto, our Black Friday note has each shop's address and hours.
