How to spot fake Denim Tears: tags, wreaths and price
The checks that still work on a Denim Tears hoodie, and two guide tells the brand's own October 2026 pages contradict.
Check four things on a Denim Tears Cotton Wreath hoodie: neck tag, wash tag, hood wreath and price. The guides look for a green "African Diaspora Goods" neck tag and one unbroken hood wreath. The brand's Canadian page asked CAD 300 on 7 November 2026.

Then read the country. On 17 October 2026, the brand's own page said its Cotton Wreath Hoodie is "Made in Turkey", with puff print wreaths.
That matters, because the popular guides teach two tells that do not fit it. WikiHow says a real hoodie is made in Portugal, and one legit check site says the wreaths are flat. For that hoodie, the brand itself says otherwise.
Quick facts
- The brand's price: CAD 300 for the navy Cotton Wreath Hoodie on denimtears.com, rechecked 7 November 2026.
- Where it is made now: of 208 pieces on the brand's site, 112 name China, 33 Turkey and 16 Vietnam; none names Portugal.
- The wreaths: "signature puff print Cotton Wreaths", in the brand's own words.
- The neck tag: green, with "African Diaspora Goods", in all 3 guides we read.
- The guarantee: Denim Tears guarantees only its own site and its 23 listed stores, none in Canada.
- On within: 12 Denim Tears pieces at 1 boutique, CAD 200 to 500, read 17 October 2026.
What does a real Denim Tears tag look like?
The neck tag is green with white text. All three guides we read look for "African Diaspora Goods" on it, and wikiHow also shows "Est. 1619".
The 1619 is the year the first enslaved Africans were brought to English Virginia, a date Denim Tears printed on its sleeves in 2019. Our note on what Denim Tears means covers the wreath itself.

Look for a small gap between the neck tag and the collar seam. WikiHow's guide, updated in December 2025, says a tag sewn tight to the seam points to a fake.
Then the wash tag. Two guides say real pieces carry thick, bold text, and wikiHow adds a wide black bar across the top. Thin or patchy print is the warning.
Where is Denim Tears made?
WikiHow's guide lists "Made in Portugal" on the tags of the hoodies it checked.
The brand's own site, read on 17 October 2026, names no Portugal piece among 208. Its current Cotton Wreath Hoodie, sweatpants and ADG Stamp Hoodie all say made in Turkey.
So a Turkey label on a new Cotton Wreath hoodie matches the brand's own page. It is no reason, alone, to call it fake.
Check the tag against the brand's own page before any guide.
Are the cotton wreaths raised or flat?
Raised, by the brand's own account. Its October 2026 page calls them puff print. WikiHow says real wreaths are slightly raised and rough to the touch, and one legit check site says the opposite.
WikiHow adds a hood check. A real hoodie, it says, carries one wreath that runs from the outside of the hood to the inside with no seam through it. Extra wreaths scattered inside the hood are a warning sign.
What does the price tell you?
A great deal, because the brand's own price is low for what resale asks. The navy Cotton Wreath Hoodie is CAD 300 on the Canadian page of denimtears.com, rechecked 7 November 2026. Its own page says Cotton Wreath styles are final sale.
Resale runs above that.
At Utopia on 17 October 2026, new Cotton Wreath sweatshirts asked CAD 500 and new Cotton Wreath sweatpants CAD 400. A hoodie offered well under the brand's price deserves the hardest look. No single check proves a piece is real; each one is a warning sign.
Who guarantees it is real?
Denim Tears guarantees what it sells itself. Its stores page says guaranteed authentic goods can only be bought on its website and in its listed stores. Those are the New York flagship on Spring Street, an Atlanta residency, Dover Street Market in 4 cities, and 17 more US shops.
A resale shop's own promise is its promise, not the brand's. Ask for the receipt or the order email, and check the tags yourself.
The answer in one paragraph
To spot a fake Denim Tears hoodie, check the green neck tag, reading "African Diaspora Goods" and "Est. 1619". Then check the wash tag's bold print and black bar, one unbroken wreath through the hood, and the price against the brand's CAD 300. On 17 October 2026, Denim Tears' own page said its Cotton Wreath Hoodie is made in Turkey with puff print wreaths.
For fit, read Denim Tears sizing. The Denim Tears page lists the boutique pieces with prices.
