What Fear of God says a real one is
The brand's product page for the FW26 Classic Hoodie, read 20 September 2026, says it "is crafted from 380GSM core fleece". The logo across the back is what the brand calls a soft touch logo, the pocket is a kangaroo pocket, and the cuffs and hem are rib knit. "The look is completed with an Essentials Fear of God label on the hood."
The zip version is "made from heavy 380gsm core fleece" with a split kangaroo pocket. Across the 507 Essentials products on the brand's feed that day, 94 descriptions name 380GSM fleece and 74 name the label on the hood. Its slides carry "the black rubberized Essentials Fear of God label on the heel".
What it costs new
Read 20 September 2026, fearofgod.com listed 97 adult Essentials hoodies from US$150 to US$195, median US$175. The FW26 Classic Hoodie was US$160 in every size from XS to 4XL, and the Classic Full Zip Hoodie US$170. The whole Essentials collection ran 507 products from US$50 to US$1,195, median US$140.
On the Toronto shelf the same day, the 40 hoodies asked $120 to $500, median $200, in Canadian dollars. Most are earlier seasons: 90 of the 98 titles carry a season code, from SS19 to FW25, and 42 of those are FW22 or SS22. A used hoodie from 2022 at $150 is an ordinary resale price, and a "new" one at $40 is not.
What the brand's own rules tell you
Fear of God's terms of use say a buyer "will not purchase Products for resale", so every Essentials hoodie on a resale shelf came through a customer, not the brand. Its FAQ says orders ship from "our distribution center in Los Angeles". Returns: "Eligible items purchased domestically on fearofgod.com can be returned within 15 days of the shipping date."
The same FAQ requires returned items "unworn, unaltered, and in their original packaging with all tags attached". So the brand's guarantee lasts 15 days and covers the first buyer. After that the guarantee is the reseller's, and the reseller has to write it down.
Who holds the pieces
All 98 sit at Utopia, 132 Cumberland Street in Yorkville, open noon to 8pm seven days, read from the shop's own site on 20 September 2026. Its refund page says "All sales are final" and that no returns or exchanges are taken. The same page says "All products sold are 100% authentic".
Eight of the 98 carry the shop's pre owned tag, and the rest carry no condition tag.
A hoodie is real when the seller says so in writing and the price makes sense against US$160.
The Essentials Toronto shelf prints the asking price on each piece, the Essentials stockist page says which shop holds it, and the Essentials price guide carries every category.
How to tell if Essentials hoodie is real
Check the spec the brand publishes, read 20 September 2026: 380GSM fleece, a soft touch logo across the back, rib knit cuffs and hem, and a label on the hood. Then check the price against US$150 to US$195 new that day. Last, get the seller's guarantee in writing, because the brand's own return window is 15 days and only for the first buyer.
Essentials hoodie real vs fake
The brand publishes no checklist of fakes, and neither do we; the checks that trace to a source are the spec, the price and the seller. A real FW26 Classic Hoodie is US$160 in XS to 4XL on fearofgod.com, read 20 September 2026. On the Toronto shelf the 40 hoodies ask $120 to $500, median $200, and the shop states its guarantee in writing.
How to spot fake Essentials hoodie
Start with the price and the story. A "brand new" hoodie far under the US$160 the brand charges, with no season and no size named, is the one to walk away from. The Toronto shop names the season in 90 of its 98 Essentials titles and tags 8 as pre owned, read 20 September 2026.
Noon to 8pm, seven days, and 97 of the 98 pieces ask under $500.
