Fear of God outfits: five Essentials sets from $300

Jerry Lorenzo, Essentials' designer, told Hypebeast in April 2018 that he wanted shapes "that work together like legos or tetris. Building on one another and not interrupting your current closet."

Lorenzo built the line so pieces work together, which is why one colour from one season looks like one outfit. Buy the set on resale for a colour the brand has stopped making, and new for black. On 9 October 2026 none of the 115 colour names Fear of God sells Essentials in is Dark Oatmeal, Light Oatmeal, Taupe, Stretch Limo, Cloud Dancer or Eggshell.

Fear of God against Essentials

Essentials arrived in March 2018 as a diffusion line priced below the main line. Jerry Lorenzo said in an 18 April 2018 Hypebeast report that it should not feel "watered down from our mainline". Main line pieces count 204 at a CAD 1,100 median, while Essentials spans 755 pieces at a CAD 245 median.

The main line Classic Hoodie is CAD 935, crafted in the USA from 100% heavyweight cotton fleece with a sunfade treatment. FW26 Essentials Classic Hoodies cost CAD 255 in 380GSM core fleece. Italy, the USA, Japan or Portugal appear on 196 main line pages, against nine Essentials shoe pages.

Returns differ between the lines. Essentials is final sale, while eligible main line pieces allow 15 days domestically, 28 days abroad, and mainline items shipped with a hanger must go back with it. Across the shelf, 131 of 140 listings carry Essentials in the title, and none comes from Collection Nine, listed 5 March 2026.

For one colour, head to toe

Wearing one tone is the foundation. From FW23, fall and winter 2023, the FW23 Cloud Dancer hoodie and the FW23 Cloud Dancer sweatpants cost $150 each. That $300 set is complete only in L, with neither carrying a condition grade.

In Dark Oatmeal from SS22, spring and summer 2022, the SS22 Dark Oatmeal hoodie is $300. Matching the SS22 Dark Oatmeal sweatpants at $280 brings the set to $580 in size L, with shorts at $250. That is CAD 105 over the new set.

New FW26 Classic Hoodies in oatmeal heather cost CAD 255, while Classic Sweatpants cost CAD 220, totaling CAD 475. The sweatpant is made from 380gsm core fleece to provide additional body and structure. An archived colour drives the premium.

For all black

Older black pieces cost more. Pairing the SS22 Stretch Limo hoodie at $300 with SS24 Jet Black sweatpants at $250 and an FW24 tee at $200 totals $750. That set is complete only in XL, and none of the pieces carries a condition grade.

Buying new costs less in black. The FW26 Classic Hoodie, Classic Sweatpant and Classic Tee sell in black at CAD 255, CAD 220 and CAD 120, CAD 595 together. Its FW26 Classic Tee is cut from medium weight 100% cotton jersey.

Black is still made. The FW26 Classic pieces come in black on the brand's site, while Stretch Limo exists only on secondary racks. That makes the older set CAD 155 more than buying new.

Pay for a colour only when the brand has stopped making it.

For a jacket on top in October

Jackets let you break up fleece. In size M, the Fear of God x Nike warm up top costs $200 pre owned. Worn over an FW24 tee at $150 and FW24 Fleece Relaxed Sweatpants at $350, that complete outfit costs $700 in black.

In size L, the Fear of God Athletics track jacket in oatmeal heather is $250. Layer it over an SS22 "1977" Hoodie in Light Oatmeal at $150 and SS22 Light Oatmeal sweatpants at $250 for a $650 set. Athletics is filed as a separate line.

In navy, the Fifth Collection cap costs $150 pre owned (the Fifth Collection cap is listed as one size, so ask the shop its fitted size before you order). Essentials New Era 59Fifty fitted hats run $100 to $150 in sizes 7 1/8 to 7 7/8.
