Tees and why your usual size works

Midweight 6.5oz cotton jersey shapes the Basic Stüssy Tee, priced at US$45 in 100% cotton. Laid flat, a medium measures 21.5 inches across the chest, which doubles to about 43 inches around. Nike assigns a 37.5 to 41 inch chest to medium, leaving 2 to 5.5 inches of extra space.

Time reported in February 1991 that Shawn Stussy, a former surfboard maker, started his business in 1982 by transferring surfboard graphics to T shirts and shorts. It described his baggy jerseys. That loose cut remains the pattern across 84 of the 94 tees on Stussy's US store.

An M hoodie is as wide as an L tee

Heavyweight 12.7oz fleece gives the US$130 Basic Stüssy Hoodie its weight, blended from 75% cotton and 25% polyester. Laid flat, a medium measures 23.5 inches across the chest, matching the chest of a Basic tee in large. It spans 22 inches across the shoulders and about 47 inches around the body.

That leaves 6 to 9.5 inches of extra space over a Nike medium chest. Stussy's US store listed the black Basic hoodie in XXL only on 10 October 2026. At Utopia, the same Stussy Basic Hoodie in black was in stock in S and L at CAD 280, the last piece in each size.

Skip the body chart and measure flat

Flat numbers are the main guide. Stussy's size guide instructs shoppers to refer directly to the flat garment measurements provided on each product page instead of relying on standard charts. Its separate body chart lists an XS chest at 38 to 40 inches and a medium at 44 to 46 inches.

By Stussy's body chart, a 40 inch chest is an XS. Its XS tee measures about 35 inches around. Garment measurements fall below those body figures, though on Stussy's conversion chart, a UK 40 translates to medium.

Stussy's tag tells the truth. The cut is what runs big.

Pants fit true to waist numbers

Stussy lists waist numbers 28 to 38 beside its letter sizes. A medium covers a 31 to 32 inch waist, while a large spans 33 to 34 inches. Out of 58 pant listings on the US store, 30 use a relaxed fit, 17 classic fit, 6 oversized and 5 slim fit.

Trust your waist measurement. Buying the letter matching your actual waist number keeps the waistband sitting properly while legs retain their intended drape.

Before you pay

Measure a flat garment first. Lay a tee you like flat, measure across the chest just under the armpits, and compare that figure to the flat chart on the product page.
