Amarcord Vintage Fashion, 223 Bedford Avenue. Vintage, on the street most people mean when they say they are going shopping in Williamsburg.

Antoinette, 119 Grand Street. Vintage and local designers, three blocks south of the Bedford crowd and quieter for it.

Malin Landaeus, 157 N 6th St. A vintage room trading under its owner's own name, and the narrowest buy on this list.

Maimoun, 111 Grand St. A concept store, next door to Antoinette, selling new clothing and objects rather than second hand.

Brooklyn Denim Co., 338 Wythe Ave. The only denim specialist on this list, and the only shop here where the fit is the reason to go in person.

Grand Street against Bedford Avenue

Bedford Avenue is the street the guidebooks send you to and the one with the chain tenants on it. Two of the five shops here are on Grand Street instead, and they are next door to each other at 111 and 119.

Walk Grand from Berry to Union and you get both of those plus the restaurants, in about fifteen minutes. Then cut north on Wythe for the denim.

Alter, 140 Franklin Street in Greenpoint, is one L stop and a walk away and buys wider than anything in Williamsburg proper.

Sagebrush Collective, 96 Knickerbocker Avenue, suite 116, with the entrance on Thames Street, is the Bushwick vintage room. Front General Store, 143 Front St, is in Dumbo. Unearth Vintage is at 159 Smith St in Boerum Hill.
