Common questions
What is the tariff on clothes from China?
Clothes made in China pay their US duty plus 20 per cent. A cotton T-shirt pays 16.5 per cent duty, 7.5 per cent under the 2019 list and 12.5 per cent since 24 July 2026: 36.5 per cent in all.

How much is import duty from China to the USA?
On clothes, shoes and bags, 16.5 to 55.1 per cent of the price: the US duty, then 7.5 or 25 per cent under the 2018 and 2019 lists and 12.5 per cent since 24 July 2026. A courier parcel also pays a US$2.77 processing fee and the courier's own fee.

Source: Federal Register (federalregister.gov, 2 pages), read 20 October 2026.
Do goods made in China but shipped from another country pay the China tariffs?
Yes. US tariffs follow where a piece was made, not where it ships from: a jacket made in China and sent from a shop in Canada pays the same 20 per cent on top of its duty.

Are goods made in Hong Kong taxed like goods from China?
Not for these tariffs. Goods made in Hong Kong pay the US duty plus 12.5 per cent since 24 July 2026, under their own heading, and none of the 2018 and 2019 China lists.
