US customs duty calculator for clothes, shoes and bags
No parcel comes into the US duty free by value any more: clothes, shoes and bags pay 1.2 to 32 per cent. Goods from 60 countries add 10 or 12.5 per cent since 24 July 2026.
Type the price, what it is, where it was made and where it ships from. The page works out the duty from the US tariff schedule, any extra tariff on the country it was made in, the processing fee and the courier's fee.

Common questions
How do I calculate US customs duty?
Multiply the customs value, the price without international shipping, by the rate on the piece's HTS line, for example 19.7 per cent on a men's cotton shirt. Add any Section 301 or 338 tariff for where it was made, and $2.77 for a courier parcel up to $2,500. A $1,000 shirt made in Portugal pays $197, and no Section 301 tariff, because its duty is already above the EU's 10 per cent floor.

How much will US customs charge me?
For clothes, shoes and bags the duty runs from 1.2 per cent on silk scarves to 32 per cent on polyester sweaters and T-shirts. Goods from 60 countries add 10 or 12.5 per cent on top since 24 July 2026, and goods made in Brazil another 25. A courier parcel also pays CBP's $2.77 processing fee, plus the courier's own fee: FedEx charges 2 per cent of what it pays, at least $12.

What are the current US customs duty rates?
The 2026 tariff schedule, in force since 9 October 2026, sets 16.3 per cent plus 41 cents a kilogram on a wool coat. Cotton T-shirts and sweaters pay 16.5 per cent, leather shoes 8.5 to 10, leather handbags 9 and gold jewellery 5.5. Extra tariffs then depend on where the piece was made.

What happened to the $800 customs limit?
There is no $800 limit for parcels now: it was suspended for every country on 29 August 2025. CBP made the suspension open ended in rules of 24 June 2026. The allowance for things you carry back yourself is separate, and this page does not cover it.

Do I pay duty on clothes shipped from Canada to the US?
Yes: a piece made in Italy and sent from a Toronto shop pays the general duty, and at least 10 per cent in total. Canadian made pieces pay the general duty plus 10 per cent, unless they qualify under USMCA. Since 22 August 2026 some Canadian made clothing and jewellery pays another 50 per cent.
