Do Nikes run small? Nike shoe sizing, model by model
Do Nikes run small? 11 of 42 Nike pages say so, read 9 October 2026, and the Air Force 1 runs half a size big.

Eleven of 42 Nike product pages say fits small, read 9 October 2026, and the Air Force 1 runs big. Five pages advise ordering half a size down, while 24 give no fit note. Nine pages cover every page read for the Air Max 97, Air Max Plus, Air Max 270, Cortez Leather and V2K Run.

Nike, on the shelf.
Say you wear a 10 in most Nikes, buy Air Force 1s in a 10, and find they slip at the heel. Nike's page recommends half a size down, and its guide suggests a 9.5 for a regular size 10 wearer. Check Air Force 1 pairs in stock, by size.
The question has no single answer. Nike sizes by foot length, but different shoes use different lasts, materials and midsoles, so fit varies across models.

The Air Force 1 runs big, and Nike says so
The Air Force 1 debuted in 1982 as the first basketball shoe to house Nike Air. The design pairs a leather upper and perforated toe box with a padded collar and foam midsole. Nike's guide explains that the roomy toe box causes the big fit, advising buyers to choose half a size smaller.
Three of four Air Force 1 '07 pages say fits large. The White and Game Royal pair on sale at CAD 104.99 prints no fit line. Nike charges CAD 150 for a standard '07 pair.

A plain black Air Force 1 Low '07 lists at CAD 140 in seven sizes from 8 to 12, the 9.5 among them. A 2012 Year Of The Dragon 1 in size 11 asks CAD 300. The page beats the name.
One Dunk, three answers
The Dunk landed on college basketball courts during the 1985 to 1986 season. Nike says the shoe did not prove popular on court, but its flat, grippy soles won over skateboarders. The men's Dunk Low Retro features a synthetic leather upper that softens with wear.
Two women's Dunk Low pages say fits large (Nike's own Dunk guide says true to size, so its women's pages disagree with it). One of three SB Dunk Low Pro pages says fits small, while four men's Retro pages print no fit line.
Inspect Dunk pairs in stock, by size, where 78 of 143 pairs are SB Dunk Lows. parlor23 lists its women's Dunk Lows in both systems (the 2022 Venice, CAD 210, W 8.5 / M 7). The dearest pair is an SB Dunk Low Travis Scott at CAD 3,000 in size 13.

The Air Max splits by model
Nike placed Air cushioning inside shoes in 1978 and revealed it in the heel of the Air Max 1 in 1987. The Air Max 97 uses ripple lines inspired by Japanese bullet trains over a full length Max Air unit. The Air Max 270 arrived as Nike's first lifestyle Air Max, using a stretchy inner sleeve.
Every page read for the 97, the 270, and the Air Max Plus advises ordering half a size up. Two pages for the Air Max 90, the Air Max 95 Big Bubble, and an Air Max 1 page carry no fit line.
Four listed men's Air Max 97s are each a 9.5, the size Nike's line points a 9 wearer to. The 2019 Neon Seoul asks CAD 375. An Air Max Plus OG Hyper Blue from 2018, tried on, asks CAD 300 in a 9.
Nike puts the fit on the page of the pair, not on the name of the shoe.
Runners, from the 1972 Cortez to the V2K
Nike co founder Bill Bowerman designed the Cortez in 1972. Rebuilt with a wider toe area and firmer side panels, every Cortez Leather page still advises half a size up. A Cortez Union Light Smoke asks CAD 120 in a 10.5, matching Nike's CAD 120 price for a plain leather pair.
The Zoom Vomero 5 brings early 2000s running cushion without a fit note, while the remastered V2K Run advises sizing up. Andrew Bumbalough, product line manager for running footwear at Nike, described the target fit for road shoes. "Running shoes are intended to fit true to size with approximately a thumb's width between the big toe and the end of the shoe."
The Mind 001 mule features 22 nodes underfoot. Its women's page advises half a size up, while the men's page tells half size wearers to size up. Thirteen Mind 001 slides on offer ask CAD 250 to 450.

Before you pay
Measure feet late in the day with paper taped to a hard floor, balanced weight, and regular socks. A friend marks both feet from heel to toe, you take the longer length, and you size up if between numbers. A men's size 10 box prints 28 centimetres, but Nike assigns that shoe to a 27.1 centimetre foot.
Say every Nike you own is a 10, and your foot measures 28 centimetres, 11 inches. On Nike's chart a foot that long is a men's 11. The box is not your foot.
Nike says wide shoes have about 6.35 millimetres more girth in the toe box than regular width shoes, and extra wide about 1.7 centimetres more. Nike names the Pegasus and the Monarch among its shoes made in wide fits. A women's size is the men's size plus 1.5.
Nike's own chart is in the shoe size converter, and the Nike size chart has its charts for shoes and clothes. The directory lists where to buy Nike in Canada.
At parlor23 all shoes are final sale, while Outlined refunds only its own fulfilment mistakes. Utopia marks all sales final and asks customers to check the size before checkout.
The shop ships to the US and worldwide, free to Canada and the US over CAD 300, with no import duty for a buyer in Canada. Nike gives members 30 days of free returns on nike.com/ca.
A pair that fits right carries you through any city.
Common questions
Do Nikes generally run big or small?
Nike shoes do not follow one rule, as 11 product pages say fits small while the Air Force 1 runs big. Nine of those pages cover five models where every page read says fits small, plus two single pages. Nike shoes share foot length measurements but use different lasts, so fit changes across models.
Is it better to size up or down in Nike shoes?
Size up half a size for small models like the Air Max 97, but size down for the Air Force 1. Nike recommends sizing up if your measurement falls between two sizes on its chart. Wide feet can keep their standard size in Air Force 1 pairs.
Do women's Nikes run small or large?
It depends on the model, as the women's Air Force 1 runs large while the Cortez Leather and Mind 001 fit small. To convert from a men's size to a women's size on Nike charts, add 1.5 sizes. For example, a men's size 6.5 equals a women's size 8.
Is 6.5 Y the same as 6.5 women's?
No, on Nike's charts a 6.5Y is a men's 6.5 and a women's 8. That youth size corresponds to European size 39. Buying a 6.5Y expecting a women's 6.5 gives you a shoe 1.5 sizes too large.
