How to spot fake Homme Plissé Issey Miyake
How to spot fake Homme Plissé Issey Miyake: why the brand won't authenticate, how to read the labels as a set, and what a real piece costs in CAD.
Issey Miyake names 4 official online stores and says it cannot appraise anything bought outside them. That leaves the resale buyer to check a Homme Plissé piece alone.
It is a live question. Three authenticity requests reached the Issey Miyake forum between 27 September and 1 October, one for a piece "found at a second hand shop in Japan."
Quick facts

The brand will not authenticate
The brand's counterfeit page says it is aware of low quality fakes sold under its name. It also says it cannot respond about items bought outside its official retailers, and cannot appraise authenticity.
It lists its own stores instead: isseymiyake.com for Asia, us.isseymiyake.com for the United States and Canada, and separate UK and EU sites. A link to any other "official" shop is the first thing to doubt.
Start with the pleat
The brand's own Homme Plissé page says the line began in 2013 using garment pleating. The piece is cut and sewn first, then pleated whole.
The care page explains what that leaves behind. Pleats Please is cut, sewn and shaped before pleating, so press marks are part of the garment and not a fault.
The pleats are not heat resistant, the brand says, and it warns against altering sleeve or hem length. Homme Plissé does not offer reprocessing of pleats, so pleats lost after sale stay lost.
Read the labels as a set
Sui Generis, a consignment house, says to assess the labels as a set rather than one at a time. The main label, the size label and the care tag are read together.
Product codes are model references, it says, so search for an exact match of the same model in the same colour. A valid code is only supportive, because a fake can copy a real one.
The brand's own store shows what a match looks like. Its US site lists a Tailored Pleats 1 jacket under the code HP68-JD150, at US$910, in sizes 1 to 4.
Care tags are among the most frequently counterfeited parts, by its account. It also cautions against decoding a code into a season unless that reading is documented.
Truss Archive offers one documented reading. It takes the first two characters as the line, such as PP for Pleats Please, and the fourth as the season.
The tells that recur
LuxeDetect, an authentication guide, flags an iron symbol on the care label as a fake tell. That fits the brand's own rule never to iron the pleats.
The same guide says the line name should carry its accent, PLISSÉ, and that the pleated pieces read Made in Japan and 100% polyester. Treat those as checks to confirm against the official listing for the same model.
None of these alone proves a piece real. Together with an exact model match, they narrow the doubt.
What a real piece costs in Canada
On 2 October 2026 WDLT117, at 7 St Thomas Street in Toronto, held 78 Homme Plissé pieces at $299 to $2,650. The Homme Plissé shelf lists them live.
Pleated pants were the deepest type, with 17 listings, and pleated shorts had 8. A Duvet jacket in yellow asked $2,650, a Tailored Pleats 1 jacket $1,740 and a Basic Pleated jacket in light grey $1,300.
The way in is shorts. A Tailored Pleated short in cloud gray and a Pleated Hiking short in golden yellow asked $299 each.
Sizes ran 1 to 4, and the middle was deepest. Of the sizes in stock, 50 listings carried a 3, 41 a 2, 17 a 4 and 10 a 1.
The women's line sat beside it, with 22 Pleats Please pieces at $425 to $1,150 in sizes 3 to 5. For the shop, the pleating and the numbering in more depth, read our Homme Plissé and Pleats Please guide.
Common questions
How do I check if my Issey Miyake piece is authentic?
Read the main label, size label and care tag as a set, then search the product code for an exact model match. Check the care label for an iron symbol, which LuxeDetect calls a fake tell.
Can Issey Miyake tell me the year and model of my piece?
No. The brand says it cannot appraise items bought outside its official retailers. An exact match of the product code to a documented listing is the most reliable route to the model.
Is Homme Plissé found at a second hand shop in Japan real?
It can be, but the place proves nothing. Run the same label checks, and give the care tag the closest look, since Sui Generis calls it one of the most counterfeited parts.
How much does Homme Plissé cost in Canada?
On 2 October 2026, 78 pieces asked $299 to $2,650 CAD on one shelf. Shorts started at $299, and jackets reached $2,650.
