Is Purple Brand Canadian? Born in Vancouver, run in New York

Purple Brand started in Vancouver in 2017, so it is Canadian by birth, but a Nevada company in New York runs it today and sells in US dollars.

Partly: Purple Brand began in Vancouver in 2017, but a New York company runs it today. If your cart is on the brand's own site, you are buying from the New York half, in US dollars, shipped from the United States.

Purple Brand, on the shelf.

Luke Cosby, a cofounder, took a small set of samples to New York and sold them out of a hotel room, the Houston Press reported in March 2026. In the early months of the pandemic, it wrote, Purple was two weeks from going out of business.

I'd call it a Vancouver label that moved to New York. A Nevada corporation on Broadway runs the site, and both of its stores are in the United States, in SoHo and Houston.

Quick facts

  • Founded: Vancouver, 2017, by Luke Cosby and Rob Lo; the brand's About page says 2018
  • Run by: Purple Brand America, Inc., a Nevada corporation in New York, per terms of 7 January 2026
  • Made: mostly in China and Italy, by Cosby's account in 2023; the product pages name no country
  • Price on its own site: jeans US$188 to 795, median US$295, read 16 October 2026
  • Stores: 2, in New York and Houston
  • On within: 102 Purple Brand pieces at 3 boutiques, CAD 89 to 715, read 16 October 2026

Vancouver in 2017, a year before the brand says

Cool Hunting put it plainly in November 2023: "Founded in Vancouver in 2017 by a collective of friends that included industry veterans Luke Cosby and Rob Lo." Harry Rosen's editorial in February 2022 described "two fashion industry vets from Vancouver", and END calls it "the Vancouver label" on its product page. Denimology and Deeds magazine add a third founder, Klaus Lam.

Purple's own About page says "Founded in 2018" and names no city. I side with 2017, because Cool Hunting, Harry Rosen and NRML all print it. The brand's own catalogue points the same way: its oldest product records, a P002 Black Repair and a P001 Black Resin 3/D, are dated 19 June 2017.

A Nevada company on Broadway runs it now

The brand's terms, last updated 7 January 2026, name the company behind the site: "Purple Brand America, Inc., a Nevada corporation." Its office is on the fourth floor of 495 Broadway in New York, and the privacy policy of 20 March 2025 adds a Swiss subsidiary, Purple Brand International SAGL.

On ownership, NRML's history of the brand, from 5 October 2023, calls Cosby cofounder and owner. The Houston Press credited "Luke Cosby and his partners" in March 2026, and wrote of partners based in Vancouver. No outside investor or parent company appears in anything I read, so I won't guess past that.

The American address makes sense once you know Cosby. He grew up in Missouri City, Texas, and sold Common Projects, Cheap Monday and Band of Outsiders in New York and Los Angeles showrooms. "Previously we only had an office in Vancouver, but I was based in Houston," he told Cool Hunting in 2023.

Designer prices, contemporary make

The product pages name no country of manufacture. Cosby told Cool Hunting in 2023 where they are made: "We work with craftsman from around the world, mostly from China and Italy, who have generational factories." Concepts, on its own site on 21 May 2021, wrote of "experienced denim factories in Asia and Italy".

Every pair is "finished individually by hand", the brand's pages say, each with its own wash, and that hand work is the plainest reason for the price. The P001 there is 98% cotton and 2% Lycra. A P001 Sand Dune Cross sold in Canada reads 99% cotton and 1% elastane, with a "signature Purple hangtag and branded leather patch on back".

On its own site, 83 jeans in stock at full price run US$188 to 795, median US$295, which is designer denim money. By make I'd put it nearer a good contemporary jean, so start with the P002 at US$188 to 198 before a P001 skinny at up to US$450. "Our sales are still 80% skinny," Cosby said in that 2023 interview.

Born in Vancouver, run from Broadway, priced in US dollars.

Two stores, both in the United States

The New York flagship is at 50 Howard Street in SoHo, and malls.com called it the brand's first physical store on 12 August 2024. Houston came next, at 5085 Westheimer Road in the Galleria, and a 2025 Crown Royal release called it "PURPLE's second retail venture". (The brand writes its own name in capitals, PURPLE; the shops write Purple Brand.)

Blue Sky Inn launched a collaboration with Purple on 16 December 2023, and a Crown Royal capsule inspired by the rapper Bun B followed on 11 March 2025. Alpha Industries made two reversible bombers with the brand, and Due West lists a Purple Brand x Alpha Industries Bomber Jacket in black at CAD 449.

Buying Purple Brand from Canada

Three boutiques in Toronto sell it in Canadian dollars, and Purple Brand on the shelf runs CAD 89 to 715, median CAD 225. Due West, at 431 Queen Street West, has the most, 79 pieces, and its returns follow its own policy.

Of the 18 pieces at Outlined, at 25 The West Mall, 17 are jeans, among them the P001 Rhinestone Jeans in black at CAD 262.50. Utopia has 9, including the P004 Black Double Panels Flare Jeans at CAD 350, and every sale there is final, so know your size first.

Before you pay, read how Purple Brand jeans fit and check the listing's measurements. The Sand Dune Cross P001, CAD 165 in a 30, measures a 33 inch inseam and a 10 3/8 inch front rise. If the leg runs long on you, wear it stacked over a black boot.

A label that once sold its samples out of a New York hotel now has its flagship on Howard Street.

Common questions

Who owns purple brand jeans?

Purple Brand America, Inc., a Nevada corporation with an office in New York, runs the brand, and NRML names Luke Cosby its cofounder and owner. No outside backer is named in anything I read, and the label itself began in Vancouver in 2017.

Where are purple brand jeans made?

Mostly in China and Italy, by Luke Cosby's own account to Cool Hunting in 2023, and the product pages name no country. "One of our Chinese factories has been in business for over a century," he said in the same interview.

Is the Purple Brand high end?

By price, yes: jeans on its own site run US$188 to 795, median US$295, each finished by hand. The make sits closer to a good contemporary jean. On Purple Brand prices, the 22 jeans on the shelf ask CAD 150 to 350, median CAD 225.
