PLATE No. CXII

SSENSE is a real shop and it is trading. Its parent company, Atallah Group Inc., has been under Canadian creditor protection since 12 September 2025. Both things are true at once.

What SSENSE says about authenticity

One paragraph, from its own product information page, read 20 September 2026.

"To guarantee authenticity, the SSENSE inventory is directly supplied by the brands and designers in its collection. For added assurance, every order that we ship undergoes a thorough quality check."

Read what that claims and what it does not. It claims a supply route from the brands. It does not use the words authorised retailer anywhere, and it does not name which brands authorise it.

The court filing, from the register

The Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy Canada publishes every company granted protection under the CCAA. Its register, read 20 September 2026, carries the row.

Company: Atallah Group Inc. Date of the Initial Order: 12 September 2025.

Monitor: Ernst and Young Inc., with Martin P. Rosenthal as its named representative.

The monitor publishes its case file for that company at a web address ending in ssense, which is what ties the entity name to the shop you buy from.

What the register does not tell you

Whether the proceeding is still open. We read the row, not the docket, so the current stage is unverified here.

Our own check on 30 August 2026 found the company trading, with a Canadian court accepting the founding family's buyback in January 2026. The status desk on luxury ecommerce sets out that reading and what it was based on.

Neither page replaces the other. One is a register row with a date, the other is a check of the shop itself.

A company can take your order and be in front of a judge the same week.

What that means for an order today

Read the return policy before you pay, not after. SSENSE takes returns requested within 30 calendar days of delivery, free from Canada, the US and Japan.

Refunds go to the original payment method and take up to 5 business days to process. There are no exchanges, and shipping fees are never refunded.

Its policy page carries no date and no version number. Save a copy on the day you order, because that is the only version you can prove.

What within counts instead

Two Toronto boutiques held 4,834 pieces from 224 designers on 20 September 2026, CAD 10 to CAD 25,000, median CAD 400.

Every piece names the shop holding it, at a street address you can walk to. within does not authenticate anything, and the shop that sells a piece answers for it. The Toronto shelf is the whole list.

Before you buy

Check the seller's own authenticity wording, then check who stands behind it if a brand later disagrees. Those are two different promises.

Then check the payment route. A card gives you a chargeback path that a bank transfer does not. Our note on buying designer clothes online covers who owns which site.
