Italian clothing brands are easier to buy in Canada than most lists suggest, with 265 items from 14 labels here. On 8 November 2026 they ran from a CAD 55 Diesel tee to CAD 2,650 Guidi boots, at boutiques on within.

Two of the best known are not quite what the label suggests. Moncler began in the French Alps in 1952, and Off-White was started in Milan in 2013 by an American. So I have sorted this list by what each brand is actually good at, because that is how you would shop it.

Quick facts

  • Prada: founded in Milan in 1913. 18 items, CAD 200 to CAD 1,500.
  • Gucci: founded in Florence in 1921. 25 items, CAD 150 to CAD 2,500.
  • Moncler: started in France in 1952, based in Milan since 2003. 15 items, CAD 200 to CAD 2,500.
  • Stone Island: a Massimo Osti label from 1982. 10 items, CAD 100 to CAD 1,000.
  • Diesel: started by Renzo Rosso in 1978. 49 items, CAD 55 to CAD 1,750.
  • Guidi: a tannery founded in 1896 in Pescia. 45 items, CAD 345 to CAD 2,650.

Leather first: Prada, Gucci and Bottega Veneta

Prada started in 1913 as a Milan shop selling imported English leather goods. It made its name on something cheaper, the waterproof nylon that Miuccia Prada moved it into in the 1970s. So a Prada nylon jacket, pre owned at CAD 300, tells you more about the label than a logo tee does.

Prada has 18 items from CAD 200, most of them used, at Utopia on Cumberland Street. Gucci, from Florence in 1921, gave us the Bamboo bag in 1947 and the loafer in 1952. The shelf here leans to sneakers: a lightly used Gucci Ace in cream is CAD 250, in size 11.

Bottega Veneta came from Vicenza in 1966, and its trademark is intrecciato: strips of leather woven through slits in another piece of leather. There are 8 Bottega Veneta items on these shelves, from CAD 200.

For a leather shop from 1913, Prada's best known material is nylon.

Coats and cloth: Stone Island, C.P. Company, Moncler and Herno

Massimo Osti is the reason this group exists. He worked out that dyeing a finished garment, instead of the cloth, makes each material in it take the colour differently.

He built two labels on that idea: C.P. Company in 1971 and Stone Island in 1982. Stone Island kept experimenting: a rubberised satin, Raso Gommato, in 1983, thermosensitive fabric in 1987, reflective fabric in 1991.

Osti's Mille Miglia jacket of 1988 had clear lenses in the hood and one on the wrist so you can read your watch. C.P. Company has 21 items from CAD 165, and a Lens waist bag is CAD 325 at Due West.

IN STOCK NOW · C.P. COMPANY

Stone Island has 10 items from CAD 100, a used Compass Patch tee. It now belongs to Moncler, which was a French mountain label until Remo Ruffini took over in 2003 and moved the company to Milan.

Moncler's 15 items start at a CAD 200 cap, which I would skip: the coats are the reason to buy it, and the shelf goes to CAD 2,500. Herno, from Lesa in Piedmont in 1948, has 14 items from CAD 155, with a down bomber at CAD 1,415 in sizes 48 to 52.

Denim and the workshops: Diesel, Guidi and Off-White

Renzo Rosso started Diesel in 1978, and it now sits inside OTB, the group that also owns Maison Margiela. Its 49 items start at CAD 55, and D-Macro jeans are CAD 195 in waists 29, 33 and 36.

Guidi is the old one on this list, a tannery founded in 1896 in Pescia. Its 45 items at WDLT117 run to CAD 2,650, and our note on what to buy in Italy compares the boots across the Atlantic.

Off-White, which Virgil Abloh founded in Milan in 2013, has 48 items from CAD 150, mostly used tees. LVMH sold the brand in 2024 to Bluestar Alliance, a brand management company.

Where to go

Most of these labels run their own shops in Milan. Our Milan directory lists 97 boutiques, and the made in Italy page lists 356 items that say so on the label. The Italian clothing brands edit puts them in one place.
