within (shopwithin.co) is a Toronto-first online marketplace for independent retail. It shows what the city's boutiques, vintage shops, and local makers actually have on their shelves right now, and lets you buy it online — then pick it up in store for free, or have it delivered locally where the shop offers it. No warehouses, no drop-shipping: every item on within is sitting in a real Toronto store while you're looking at it.
How within works
The feed at shopwithin.co is a live window into participating shops' inventory. Boutiques connect their own point of sale — Shopify, Square, or Lightspeed — so what you see tracks what's on the rack, not a catalogue from last season. When something sells out in store, it leaves the shelf online too.
Browsing works the way a good shopping day does. You can wander the live shelves, go straight to a category like women's dresses or candles, or start from the boutiques themselves and shop one store at a time. Buying takes a couple of taps; pickup is free, and courier delivery is offered at cost where a store supports it.
What makes it different
Most "shop local" tools are directories: lists of stores with links out, and no idea what's in stock. Big marketplaces have inventory but nothing local about it — the "boutique" listing usually ships from a warehouse three time zones away. within is built on a stricter idea: only show what a real local shelf can back, and never let a demo, a placeholder, or a stale listing pretend otherwise.
The other difference is curation. Every boutique on within is reviewed and approved before it appears — independent stores only, chosen for quality. When a shop doesn't meet the bar, it isn't listed. That keeps the feed feeling like a well-edited street, not a flea market.
Who is on within
Toronto's independents: neighbourhood boutiques, vintage and consignment shops, makers and design stores. within is deliberately Toronto-first — the goal is to serve one city's shopping streets properly before adding the next one. If you want to know those streets better, the journal's neighbourhood guides cover Queen West, Ossington, Kensington Market, Yorkville, and Leslieville.
For boutiques
If you run an independent store in Toronto, within lists your live inventory, sends you customers, and stays out of your relationship with them. Connecting takes a few minutes from your existing Shopify, Square, or Lightspeed account, there are no listing fees, and you approve the terms before anything goes live. Start at for-stores or read the store guide.
Common questions
Is within free to use?
Yes. Shopping on within costs nothing extra — you pay the boutique's own price for the item, and pickup is free. Local delivery, where offered, is charged at cost.
What city does within serve?
Toronto. within is Toronto-first on purpose: live inventory, local pickup, and same-city delivery only work when the marketplace actually knows the ground. Other cities come later.
How is within different from Etsy or Amazon?
Etsy sells handmade and vintage goods shipped from anywhere; Amazon sells everything from warehouses. within sells what Toronto's independent boutiques have in their actual stores right now — the point isn't shipping things to your door from far away, it's making the city's own shelves shoppable.
What happens after I order?
The boutique gets your order and sets it aside. You pick it up in store for free — usually same day — or, where the store offers delivery, a local courier brings it to you. Either way you're buying from the shop itself; within organizes the shelf.
