Where to shop in Paris: the areas, and what each is for

Five areas cover almost everything a shopper wants, and they differ more than the maps suggest. So this is sorted by what you came to buy.

The Marais: the independents

Start here. Le Marais has 11 shops in our directory and the Haut Marais 9 more.

Merci at 111 boulevard Beaumarchais opens every day, and The Broken Arm at 12 rue Perrée opens Tuesday to Saturday. L'Eclaireur has a shop at 40 rue de Sévigné.

If you came for Japanese labels, Gaijin Paris on rue du Pont aux Choux stocks Issey Miyake, Kenzo and Y-3, and it opens every day. Paris shuts on Sunday, but the Marais mostly does not, and our Marais note has the hours that hold.

Saint-Honoré is for looking, and the Marais is for buying.

Saint-Honoré and Palais-Royal: the big names

Goyard's Paris shop is at 233 rue Saint-Honoré, an address it has held since 1856, and it is the one to visit if you want the bag new. In Palais-Royal, White Bird at 38 rue du Mont Thabor opens Monday to Saturday. Come here with a specific purchase in mind, because I would not browse this street hoping for a sale.

Haussmann, and the Left Bank

The department stores are the easy way to get a refund on many things at once. Galeries Lafayette on Boulevard Haussmann publishes a 12 percent refund on what you spend, which is the number to beat. Le Bon Marché, on the Left Bank in the 7th arrondissement, was founded in 1838, and La Samaritaine by the Pont Neuf dates from 1870.

For used designer on the Left Bank, Chercheminippes at 109 rue du Cherche-Midi is the consignment shop to know, open 11:00 to 19:00 from Monday to Saturday. On the other side of the river, Comptoir Vintage at 104 Rue de Turenne deals in Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Chanel and Gucci.

The canal and the Sentier

Centre Commercial at 2 rue de Marseille is the reason to walk to the canal. Near Montorgueil, Kiliwatch at 64 rue Tiquetonne opens Monday to Saturday from 10:30 to 20:00. If vintage is the purpose of the trip, the vintage list has all 20.

What to leave for home

Some French labels are easier to buy where you live.

On within, Veja has 51 items from CAD 119 and A.P.C. 29 from CAD 125, both at Due West on Queen Street West. Drôle de Monsieur has 86 items from CAD 85 at the same shop, and Walk in Paris has 57 from CAD 69.

So leave those for home and spend Paris on what does not travel, a new Goyard, a used Chanel from Rue de Turenne. The Paris buying note has the Polène sum, and the Europe tax note has the airport step for the refund.

Where to shop for fashion in Paris?

The Marais for independent boutiques, Saint-Honoré for the big labels and Boulevard Haussmann for department stores. For used designer, try rue du Cherche-Midi on the Left Bank and Rue de Turenne in the Marais.

What is special to buy in Paris?

The things that are hard to get elsewhere, like a Goyard bag from 233 rue Saint-Honoré. A Polène bag is the other, 340 euros in France against CAD 670 in Canada on 8 November 2026.

Are shops open on Sunday in Paris?

Most of the city closes, but the Marais mostly does not. Merci and Gaijin Paris open every day, while The Broken Arm closes on Sunday and Monday.
