Are skinny jeans out of style? What the racks say

You can fairly say boutiques buy a season behind the shows, and that the shops are right to wait. I agree, and that is the honest reason to count the racks.

Back on the runway

Vogue's headline on 5 September 2026 said the 2000s called, and that these are not the skinnies you remember. W magazine ran "Yes, Skinny Jeans Are Back" on 4 September 2026, calling styling the secret to fashion's most polarizing denim comeback. Glamour UK backed the comeback on 17 October 2026.

In Milan in June 2026, Prada showed "exclusively skinny cropped pants". Dior, Saint Laurent and Celine followed in Paris. On 4 August 2026, NYLON's Kevin LeBlanc called Spring 2027 menswear a sharp left turn to calf clinging jeans "we swore we left behind in 2012".

Who What Wear, last updated 28 July 2026, says for fall 2026 "there is no question that we'll be returning to very fitted looks". It called Michael Rider's skinny flared pants at Celine "the talk of Paris Fashion Week".

Not back on the rack

We sorted all 233 jeans on the five boutiques' shelves by the words in each name and the site's own fit tags. 177 of them are tagged men's, so the count says more about men's racks than women's. Only 15 pairs say skinny and 7 say slim, against 74 named or tagged wide, baggy, loose, relaxed, flare or bootcut.

By cut, that is 20 straight, 16 flare or bootcut, 37 wide, and 41 baggy, loose or relaxed. A pair can count twice when it is tagged both wide and relaxed.

All 15 skinny pairs are tagged men's: 6 from Amiri on within, 6 from Purple Brand, 2 from RTA and 1 from Ksubi. They carry names like Amiri's MX1 and Purple Brand's P001. On these shelves the skinny jean lives in men's streetwear, and the 17 pairs tagged women's mostly run wide.

If you want a pair anyway

Buy from a label that never dropped the cut, and buy pre owned if you can. At 431 Queen Street West in Toronto, Due West stocks tan Purple Brand P001 skinny jeans with a coated seam for CAD 358 in sizes 31 to 34. The same shop carries the RTA Clayton skinny jeans in distressed blue for CAD 235.

The magazines say comeback, and the racks say wide.

In Yorkville, Utopia has the Amiri Old English Logo skinny jean in deep classic for CAD 1,000 in sizes 30 and 34. I would skip that price when the same shop has pre owned blue Amiri MX1 skinny jeans in size 33 at CAD 450. In Etobicoke, Outlined prices light indigo Ksubi Van Winkle skinny relaxed jeans in sizes 34 and 36 at CAD 225, the same as the Ksubi Van Winkle baggy cargo jeans.

For women, WDLT117 has black MM6 Maison Margiela slim jeans with distressed knees at CAD 299 in sizes 24 and 26. Going looser, the same shop has MM6 Maison Margiela wide leg jeans at CAD 895 and black glazed Ottolinger baggy jeans at CAD 729.

Can I still wear skinny jeans in 2026?
