Does Bape run small? Yes, by one size, with two exceptions

Then there is CR7 LIFE. Bape's US store put a new CR7 LIFE tee up on 7 October 2026. By 9 October 2026, all 9 pieces in that collection were relaxed fit, from US$125 tees to US$495 Shark hoodies.

That one collection breaks the size up rule twice. Relaxed fit is already cut big, and Bape warns that collaborations can size differently. The Bape hoodies and sweatshirts show both cases too: 3 of the 5 are collaborations, 1 is relaxed fit.

The proof is two published charts, Bape's and Nike's, both read on 9 October 2026, not a forum thread. Getting the size right matters more than usual, because Bape's US store offers no exchanges and Utopia's sales are final. Nobody swaps a wrong size.

Bape's chart against Nike's

At an 80 to 88 cm chest, Bape says S and Nike says XS. One row up, Bape's M is Nike's S at 88 to 96. Its L is Nike's M at 96 to 104, and its XL is Nike's L at 104 to 112.

So a Bape L and a Nike M are the same chest with a different letter. The four rows from S to XL all work that way. Bape heads its chart "for reference only", which is modest for numbers this exact.

For a regular Shark hoodie or tee, go one size up

Bape began in Harajuku in 1993. Its About page gives one piece a title of its own: "the legendary Shark Parka."

On its US store, the Shark pullover hoodie is US$379 and the full zip US$429, both "Made from 100% cotton". The ABC Camo Shark full zip, EUR 469 on the EU store, lists Japan as its maker. Prices by country are in why Bape costs more outside Japan.

Bape prints no hoodie chart. For a hoodie, go by the body chart above: one size up from Nike.

For tees, Bape measures the shirt itself. M is 100 cm (39.4 in) around the chest, L 105 (41.3 in), XL 113 (44.5 in).

Sizing up is easier on the Bape tees: 34 of the 43 still come in XL, 9 in S.

For anything called relaxed fit, do not size up

Relaxed fit is cut about two sizes bigger at the chest and shoulders, and the chart pairs show it. The relaxed long sleeve tee in S is 103 cm (40.6 in) around the chest, against 105 cm (41.3 in) for a regular L. Two sizes, built in.

Short sleeves line up the same way. A relaxed S has a 48 cm (18.9 in) shoulder, a regular L 48.5 cm (19.1 in). So skip the size up.

There is no relaxed hoodie chart either, so the tee charts are the evidence. On a hoodie, the clue is "relaxed fit" in the name. Read the name first.

Every CR7 LIFE piece carries those words, including the camo tee added on 7 October and a US$195 jersey with "Ronaldo 7" on the back. For a collaboration, get the measurements first

Bape's own guide gives the reason. Its men's section opens with one line: "Collaboration product sizing may differ from standard BAPE sizing."

Bape's About page says it "pioneered the art of collaboration." Its US store puts "Collaborations" first on its list of final sale items. None can go back.

Of the 3 collaborations above, no two share a size. The yellow Bape x OVO 1st Camo hoodie is an XXL at CAD 750. The grey Kid Cudi Baby Milo pullover is an M at CAD 300.

Size up for a regular Shark. Keep your size for relaxed fit. Ask first for a collaboration.

Before you pay

Measure your chest with a tape, under the arms. Find your band: 88 to 96 cm is M, 96 to 104 is L, 104 to 112 is XL. (Bape's kids' 160, for age 13, fits the same 155 to 165 cm height as its adult S.)

Next, read the name for "relaxed fit" or a second brand. Then read the returns, because the size you pick is the size you keep.

How big is a BAPE medium?

A Bape medium fits an 88 to 96 cm chest, about 34.6 to 37.8 inches, and a height of 160 to 170 cm, about 5'3" to 5'7". OPUMO's chart, read the same day, puts M at 165 to 175 cm tall, so go by Bape's own.

Do BAPE shoes run big or small?

Neither: Bape lists its shoes in standard US men's sizes, and a US 9 is 27 cm on Bape's chart and Nike's. In Toronto, a 2005 Bape x KAWS Bapesta "Chompers" in 9M is CAD 600, sold as flawed.
