How to spot fake Bape: ask where it was bought
Bape does no authenticity check of any kind, so how to spot fake Bape starts with the seller: one of its 83 stores, its own web shops, or neither.
Bape authenticates nothing, so check the seller against its 83 stores and its official online shops before you check the hoodie. Anything bought elsewhere is a second hand piece sold on the seller's word, and should be priced like one.

Bape and Kapital, on the shelf.
It is late, there is a Shark hoodie in your hands, and the seller wants an answer by morning. Bape's Japanese FAQ already asks your exact question: will Bape appraise a piece as real or fake? The answer is one line: no authenticity appraisal of any kind, no responsibility for anything bought outside an authorized retailer, and advice to buy from one.
A legit check thread can catch a bad copy. On 2 October a buyer on a Kapital forum leaned towards fake but was not sure, having only ever bought from the label's store in Tokyo. That was Kapital, but the point holds for Bape: the seller is the one check the brand itself stands behind.
Quick facts
- Bape's own stores: 83, from Harajuku to the Dubai Mall, plus official online stores such as us.bape.com
- Shark hoodie at Bape: 46 men's full zip styles on us.bape.com, USD 429 to 719, median USD 535 (about CAD 762)
- Ape Head tee at Bape: 41 men's styles, USD 99 to 189, median USD 129, about CAD 184
- Bank of Canada rate: 1.4246 Canadian dollars to the US dollar on 2 October 2026, used for each conversion
- Bape's markdowns: none of 1,159 products on us.bape.com, with seven outlet stores of its own
- On within: 66 Bape pieces at two shops, CAD 50 to 1,000, median CAD 108, read 5 October 2026, the same day as Bape's pages
For the Shark hoodie, start at Bape's own page
Bape's copy dates the Shark hoodie "Since its debut in 2004". The Paisley Pattern Shark full zip hoodie (USD 679) comes "with brushed lining", while the Cable Knit Shark (USD 655) is, as you would guess, cable knit.
Find the same piece on Bape's site by name, colourway, fabric line and price in its own currency, then hold it against the one in your hands. Anything that does not match is a question to put to the seller before you pay.
Against Bape's Shark median of about CAD 762, the 5 Bape hoodies and sweatshirts at Utopia run CAD 200 to 750. A used Bape at a fair price is a good buy. (If the hoodie is for your desk, Medicom Toy's BE@RBRICK from 8 August 2026 wears one, in a camo from a collaboration announced in 2003.)

For the tee, Bape's price against the marked down one
Nowhere Co. started A BATHING APE in Harajuku on 1 April 1993, and the Ape Head is the first signature its profile names. For the College tee, Bape's US copy keeps it short: "Made from 100% cotton." Bape's 59 men's College tees on us.bape.com share the Ape Head tee's median of USD 129, about CAD 184, the number to hold a cheaper tee against.
At Outlined, 36 Bape pieces are marked down to CAD 84 to 120, about half of that CAD 184. That half is a question about season, condition and where the shop bought the stock, never a verdict. The Bape Navy Camo Color Milo Big Ape Head Black Tee is CAD 108 there, down from 180, and sale pieces cannot be refunded under the shop's policy.

For the camo, ask which camo
Bape's Japanese copy calls 1ST CAMO its original camouflage, the one that symbolises the brand. On bape.com, the 1ST CAMO College tee (JPY 10,780) brings back an orange first seen in the 1990s, arranged differently from the autumn and winter 2017 reissue. It is cotton jersey with the College logo rubber printed on the front, in a regular fit.
Bape describes its ABC CAMO hooded jacket (USD 349 on us.bape.com) as "Made from 100% polyester." Wear either piece with plain black trousers, so the camo is the one loud thing you have on.
On us.bape.com, 69 men's 1ST CAMO pieces run USD 69 to 1,009. The 60 ABC CAMO pieces start at USD 35 and top out at USD 759, so camo has no single right price. Check that the pattern and colourway on a listing exist on Bape's own pages, and if the seller cannot name the season, keep asking before you pay.
Before you pay, trace it back to Bape
Start with the seller. Bape's 83 stores include 650 Madison Avenue in New York, 24 to 25 Conduit Street in London, 217 Rue Saint Honoré in Paris and the Dubai Mall. Online it sells through bape.com, us.bape.com, uk.bape.com, eu.bape.com, int.bape.com and bapepirate.com.
Wherever you buy from Bape, keep the receipt. Its Japanese FAQ allows no returns at all, only an exchange for a defect Bape caused, and that exchange needs the receipt.
Bape will not look at your hoodie, so price it by the person who sold it.
Next, read your bank statement. Bape's US FAQ names us.bape.com as its only online store there and asks buyers to check that the charge reads SP USBAPECOM. On a us.bape.com order, any other merchant name means you did not buy from Bape.
Check the price against Bape's own, in Bape's currency. The Canadian Anti Fraud Centre's guide "Check twice, pay once" flags 80% off and sellers with brand new social profiles as warning signs.
Then pay with care. The same guide says to verify the seller's address, phone number and email, and to pay with fraud protection, such as a credit card. Pick up and pay in person when you can.
A second owner is a different deal. Utopia is a resale shop not on Bape's list, and its 7 pre owned Bape pieces run CAD 200 to 1,000, each graded by the shop. Its refund policy says "All products sold are 100% authentic", its photos show any flaws, and every sale is final.
That makes each piece a purchase on the shop's word, which is what Bape says it cannot vouch for. Read what pre owned means before you pay. The shop ships free to Canada and the US over CAD 300, and international orders arrive in 7 to 10 business days, with tracking.
For Canada, Bape's only store is at 1028 Alberni Street in Vancouver, and there is none in Toronto. Bape's US site ships to homes in Canada, though Canadian import rules keep select items out. If you go, pair it with our note on shopping in Vancouver.
If you own other labels, the same habits run through how to spot fake Amiri and how to spot fake Chrome Hearts. Every label with a second hand market leaves the same choice: a receipt from the maker, or a second owner's word at a second owner's price.
Common questions
How to spot a fake BAPE?
Ask where it was bought, because Bape does no authenticity appraisal and vouches only for its authorized sellers. Check the seller, the receipt and the bank statement first, then hold the piece against Bape's own page and price.
Where can I buy real BAPE?
At Bape's own 83 stores and its official online stores. Its stores stand in New York, London, Paris, Seoul and Vancouver, among other cities. For pre owned and marked down pieces, each sold on its shop's word, see where to buy Bape.
Why is BAPE so cheap right now?
Cheap Bape comes from Bape's own outlets, older seasons and second owners; its US site marked down none of 1,159 products. Bape's seven A BATHING APE PIRATE STOREs sit in outlet centres in Gotemba, Rinku, Tosu, Karuizawa, Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai. A low price is a reason to ask which season and which condition; on its own it proves nothing.
