How to spot fake Amiri: read the receipt, not the label

Amiri checks only pieces it or its stockists sold, and 21 of its 922 product pages say made in China. To spot fake Amiri, read the receipt first, then the seller, then the price. The label comes last.

Late in September 2026, a reader posted a T shirt to r/amiri with one line: "Friend owes me money and gave me this instead." A debt paid in a logo tee, and a stranger's photo check the only way to learn what it is worth. Days earlier, another reader posted jeans with a note that the tag was dirty from a club the night before.

Nine legit check threads went up on r/amiri in one September week, and the regulars who answer them do strangers a kindness. But Amiri's FAQ says the brand is "unable to authenticate items purchased outside of our official channels" and sends you back to the seller. Its own site prints the Skel Top Low as made in Vietnam on six pages and in Hong Kong on one.

The jeans, where a country on the tag settles nothing

Mike Amiri started out making stage pieces by hand for Los Angeles performers. In 2014 he founded the label in his hometown. It debuted with an exclusive capsule at Maxfield, a Los Angeles concept store.

Amiri calls the MX1 in rich indigo for autumn winter 2026 "a house icon", hand distressed and repaired with python embossed leather. That one is 92% cotton, 6% elastomultiester and 2% elastane, made in Romania, at USD 1,190. Across 22 MX1 pages, the brand names the USA on 15, Italy on 6 and Romania on 1.

A jean's country tells you nothing on its own. Neither does a dirty tag after a club night.

A pre owned MX1 Skinny in size 33, blue or black, asks CAD 450 in resale. The Leather Chemist Jeans in clay and indigo top the Amiri jeans shelf at CAD 1,200.

The sneakers, where one shoe carries two countries

Footwear has been "a constant since the brand's inception", and in 2018 Mike Amiri took the Emerging Talent Award at the Footwear News Achievement Awards. The black Skel Top Low, USD 650, is a suede upper with leather bone appliqués on a two tone rubber sole. Its page says Vietnam.

The women's pair in alabaster, USD 690, says Hong Kong, and Amiri lists the women's Stars Court Low in white and black as made in China. Across 120 sneaker pages the brand names Vietnam 102 times, China 8, Hong Kong 5, Cambodia 4 and Italy 1. So a country on a sneaker proves nothing either way.

Skel Tops in baby pink, in purple and white, and in white, black and white go for CAD 500 a pair in resale. Amiri says its footwear is "measured to fit true to size", and you can size up for comfort.

The logo tee and the hoodie, the pieces people joke about

The MA Core Logo Tee and Hoodie have been in Amiri's Core Collection since pre fall 2024. At USD 350, the black tee is 100% cotton made in Italy. The black hoodie, USD 650, is 100% cotton made in the USA.

Amiri's about page treats signature graphics as applied art, with many motifs screen printed by hand. In resale, CAD 400 buys the Core Logo Tee in black, and CAD 200 buys a pre owned MA Bar Logo T shirt in white.

On X that same September week, people called out a fake Amiri hoodie and a fake Amiri jacket in public. Fake Amiri is a joke people make about each other, which is why a tee from a friend in debt feels like a risk. (If your friend bought it new, ask for the receipt now, while the two of you are still speaking.)

The receipt against the label

Amiri sold through other people's stores first. By 2017 it had shop in shops at Selfridges, Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus. In 2020 its first flagship opened on Rodeo Drive, and in 2026 the brand announced a Milan flagship, its first permanent store in Europe.

Its store page lists 35 stores, including 123 to 124 New Bond Street in London, Via della Spiga 18 in Milan and the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. Stockists on its list include Maxfield in Los Angeles, Browns and Harrods in London, Antonioli in Milan, Lane Crawford in Hong Kong and Luisa Via Roma in Florence. Canada has stockists in Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary and Montreal, but none of the 35 stores.

A side by side with a store photo settles nothing, because 684 of the 922 product pages say a special process leaves "intentional variations of shading and color". Two real pieces will not match each other. A receipt from one of those stores or stockists is the one thing Amiri itself asks to see.

The label says where it was made. The receipt says who will answer for it.

What to check before you pay

Start with the receipt. If it comes from Amiri or a listed stockist, send it to client services with clear photos, and the brand will check it.

Then the seller. Look for an address, a phone number, a stated authenticity policy, and someone who stands behind the piece if it is wrong. The Canadian Anti Fraud Centre also says to verify the seller's email and look for reviews from third party sources.

Then the price, each in its own currency. The jeans linked above ask CAD 450 to 1,200, median CAD 800. Amiri lists its own at USD 690 to 4,490.

A price far below either is a question, not a verdict, and the Anti Fraud Centre names 80% off as a warning sign.

Last, pay with fraud protection, such as a credit card, and pick up and pay in person when you can.

Utopia, the shop behind the pieces named in this note, sells them as resale, so Amiri's own check does not cover them.

Its refund page says "All products sold are 100% authentic", that every sale is final, and that pre owned pieces are photographed to show every flaw. It ships abroad in 7 to 10 business days with tracking. Weigh its promise against the final sale before you pay.

Some are: 21 of the 922 product pages on Amiri's own site say made in China, 13 of them shoes and 8 small accessories. None is a jean, a tee or a hoodie, and Italy leads with 478. A China label on a jean is worth asking the seller about, and on a sneaker it proves nothing either way.

Which country owns Amiri brand?
