Goyard St Louis PM vs GM: how much bigger is the GM?

The GM measures 40 by 20 by 32 cm and weighs 390 g. The PM measures 34 by 15 by 28 cm and weighs 300 g. The handles differ by a centimetre, and the listed materials are the same.

So pick on what you carry, not on what the bag is made of. On 18 October 2026, I found a PM page and a GM page for the tote on Goyard's site, and an MM address answered not found.

The measurements, side by side

Six centimetres longer, 5 centimetres wider and 4 centimetres taller. The width is the biggest change in proportion: 20 cm against 15 cm, a third more. The GM also weighs 90 g more, 390 g against 300 g.

The handles grow by only a centimetre, from 18 cm to 19 cm high, by the same pages. Those pages give no other strap measure.

Both bags are unlined and reversible. Turn either one inside out and the linen and cotton weave faces outward. Goyard's current pages list a removable inside pouch and a leather "Croc Universel" fastener on each, so look for both in a resale listing's photos.

Is the PM big enough?

For a day bag, Goyard thinks so. Its pages describe both sizes in the same words: for travelling or a daily routine, at the beach or in the city. Nothing on either page says one is for work and one is for travel.

The page does give one warning that matters more for the GM: do not carry anything excessively heavy. A GM fits more, so mind what goes in it. If you fill a tote to the top, the PM keeps you honest.

The Saint Louis began as a beach bag, by Goyard's own story. Reversible, it could carry wet things home with the Goyardine on the inside. It is named for King Louis IX of France, known as Saint Louis.

What does each one cost?

Goyard does not print a price on its Canadian pages, and its site lists the Saint Louis PM and GM among its personalisable pieces. Personalised orders take 2 to 4 weeks and cannot be returned. Pieces that are not personalised can be returned online within 30 days.

On the resale side, Utopia had three new totes on 18 October 2026. The black GM, brand new with its dust bag, asked CAD 3,500.

The black PM asked CAD 3,300, and an orange PM CAD 3,000. The same shop had a white Saint Louis pouch, pre owned, at CAD 500.

The gap that day was CAD 200 between black PM and black GM. Read the condition line on the listing too, since one dust bag or one scuffed corner can matter more than size.

Where does the canvas come from?

Goyard's history page dates the name to 1853. François Goyard had taken over the business after Louis-Henri Morel died suddenly in 1852. His son Edmond created the Goyardine canvas in 1892, its dots recalling his ancestors' log drives and forming a Y for Goyard.

That canvas is the same on both sizes, with the Chevroches calfskin at the trim. So a GM is not a better bag, only a bigger one.

Who should buy which

• Buy the PM if you want the lighter bag, at 300 g, for a day's things.
• Buy the GM if you pack for a weekend or carry a change of clothes most days.
• Second hand, the GM is worth a look if you need the space and the gap is small, as it was on that shelf on 18 October 2026.
