Moncler Maya vs Maya 70: what changed, and how they fit

What is the difference between the Maya and the Maya 70?

The original Maya keeps the Bazille's bones: a detachable hood with an elastic hem, a snap chin guard and a zip front. Its boudin quilting runs in horizontal tubes, at what HBX calls a 5:5 ratio of boudin against the 4:4 of earlier styles. The shell is Moncler's glossy lacquered nylon.

HBX lists what the Maya 70 changed. Poppers replace the front zip, and the hood is enlarged to allow more room for movement.

The cut is boxier. The shell is a washed lacquered nylon in 13 colours, with an anniversary logo on the left sleeve pocket.

The Maya 70 is a remake of a remake. The question is whether you want the zip or the snaps.

Wallpaper put the Maya 70 at £1,260 at launch. Moncler marked the anniversary in Milan's Piazza del Duomo with 1,952 performers in white Mayas, a number chosen for the 1952 founding year, in front of 18,000 people.

My pick: the zip Maya if it is your only winter jacket, because a zip seals the front. The Maya 70 for the louder colour and a looser fit over a knit.

The Maya, the Vezere and a Montcla in stock

On 7 November 2026, three of the 15 Moncler pieces on the Moncler shelf were short down jackets with no used tag at Utopia:

• A Maya Giubbotto in black, CAD 2,000, Moncler size 4, one left.
• A black Vezere, CAD 2,000, size 2, listed M.
• A black Montcla short down, CAD 2,500, size 2.

How does the Moncler Maya fit?

Moncler sizes run in numbers, not letters. On the Canadian chart Moncler 1 is a US S and Moncler 2 is a US M. Our Moncler sizing guide has the full run.

Moncler publishes no statement that the Maya runs small or large. The useful clue is the cut. HBX describes the original as a slimmer form, so take your usual size if you wear it over a shirt.

The Maya 70 is boxier, by HBX's description. If you liked a snug Maya, that extra width means you may not need to size up for a sweater.

One resale listing shows how loose the letters get. The black Maya above is a Moncler size 4, and the listing says it fits L or XL. Ask for the number, not the letter.

Maya vs Vezere

The Vezere is a different Moncler down jacket. Retailer listings describe a detachable drawstring hood and a padded funnel collar.

Choose the Maya for the recognisable jacket. My view: the Vezere's funnel collar suits someone who wants less of a signature look.

Where the Maya comes from

Moncler began in 1952 in Monestier de Clermont, a village in the French Alps, and by 1954 its down jacket went up K2. The Maya drew its biggest attention, by HBX's account, when Drake wore a cherry red one in the Hotline Bling video in the summer of 2015.

The Moncler Maya is a glossy quilted short down jacket with a zip and a detachable hood, launched in 2009. The Maya 70 is the 2022 anniversary version, with snaps instead of a zip, a larger hood and a boxier cut, in 13 colours.

Moncler pieces made since 2016 carry a code tag you check at code.moncler.com. The tag should name the Maya.

How to spot a fake Moncler Maya?

Start with the code tag and the model name, then price. A new Maya at a few hundred dollars is not a sale. The Moncler price note has the real figures.

Can a Moncler Maya get wet?

The shell is a lacquered nylon, and the 2022 Milan show ran in heavy rain. I found no waterproof or warmth rating from Moncler, so my advice is to treat it as rain resistant, not rainproof.

Is the Maya 70 worth it over the Maya?

Yes, for colour and a looser cut. For the zip and the slimmer original shape, stay with the Maya.
