Why is Chrome Hearts so expensive? 679 pieces, median $1,600

Silver made in Los Angeles, stores by appointment, and a resale market that sets the price. 679 live Chrome Hearts pieces, $100 to $25,000, median $1,600.

Chrome Hearts is expensive because the brand limits who can buy, and the resale market then sets the price. On 20 September 2026 within counted 679 live Chrome Hearts pieces on one Toronto shelf, $100 to $25,000, median $1,600. Every one is a resale piece, because the brand has no Canadian store.

Quick facts

What the brand does that keeps the price up

Chrome Hearts was founded in Los Angeles in 1988 by Richard Stark, Leonard Kamhout and John Bowman. Stark co owns it today with his wife Laurie Lynn. Both facts are from British GQ's report of 23 April 2026, "How Chrome Hearts got so hard to buy", by Adam Cheung.

The same report says that as of 2021 the company had over a thousand staff at its Los Angeles production site. The jewellery is heavy sterling silver. Cheung went to the Paris store for a Cemetery ring and was told there were no walk ins.

His verdict was that the brand runs "a system: one where access is uneven, information is opaque, and the best product rarely makes it to the shop floor." The brand's own website agrees in its own way. Read 20 September 2026, chromehearts.com sells four things online: Baccarat glass, scents, underwear and socks.

Where the stores are

The brand's locations page, read the same day, lists 34 stores in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, the United States, St Barth, the United Kingdom and France. 11 of the 34 say "schedule appointment" instead of "open". Its authorized retailers page names 8 shops, in Japan, the United States and Switzerland, and none in Canada.

Retail Insider reported on 16 July 2026 that Chrome Hearts bought 121 Scollard Street in Yorkville for $12.65 million. The building is three storeys and about 7,076 square feet, empty since The Webster closed its only Canadian store late last year. "No opening date has been announced."

Why resale costs more than retail

Sterling silver jewellery "consistently appreciates in price on the resale market", Lexi Eberhart, director of global marketing at Grailed, told GQ in the same April 2026 report. Tees, hoodies and trucker hats drive the most transactions, she said, and rare cross patch pants can reach a high five figure price. GQ priced the Cemetery ring at about £350 on resale in 2016 and just over £1,500 a decade later.

That pattern is on the Toronto shelf. Read 20 September 2026, the 156 jewellery pieces asked $400 to $21,000, median $2,000. The 162 sweatshirts and hoodies asked $600 to $8,000, median $2,000, and the 131 T-shirts $400 to $7,500, median $1,200.

The dearest pieces are the patched ones. Cross patch carpenter pants asked $25,000, cross patch chinos $20,000 and a pair of Paris exclusive patch jeans $18,000. A 21 inch silver Foti skull wallet chain sat between them at $21,000.

The brand limits who gets to buy, and the shelf charges for that as much as for the silver.

Who holds the pieces and what they promise

All 679 pieces sit at Utopia, 132 Cumberland Street in Yorkville, open noon to 8pm seven days, read from the shop's own site on 20 September 2026. Its refund page says "All sales are final" and that no returns or exchanges are taken. The same page says "All products sold are 100% authentic".

327 of the 679 carry a condition tag. The other 352 carry none, which means the shop wrote no grade down and the inspection is yours before you pay.

The Chrome Hearts Toronto shelf prints the asking price on each piece. The Chrome Hearts stockist page says which shop holds it, and the Chrome Hearts price guide carries every category.

Why are Chrome Hearts so expensive?

Because supply is small and access is controlled, so the resale market sets the price. The brand's own site lists 34 stores, 11 of them by appointment, and sells only glass, scents, underwear and socks online, read 20 September 2026. On the Toronto shelf that day the median asking price was $1,600 across 679 pieces, and 587 of them asked $1,000 or more.

Whether Canada has a Chrome Hearts store, and what each piece asks here, is on the Chrome Hearts Toronto shelf.

Is Chrome Hearts worth it?

Silver holds its price on resale and printed cotton does not, by Grailed's account to GQ in April 2026, so the answer depends on the piece. On the Toronto shelf on 20 September 2026 the median jewellery piece asked $2,000 and the median T-shirt $1,200. Read the Chrome Hearts price guide for every category before you pay.

Noon to 8pm, seven days, and 587 of the 679 pieces ask $1,000 or more.
