- Dents says to add 2 inches to your trouser size: 34 inch trousers take a 36 inch belt. For jeans or low rise trousers, add 3 or 4 inches more.
- Each range runs from the tightest hole to the loosest. Dents belts have five holes, and Dents suggests wearing the middle one.
- If you are between sizes, Dents says to go up.

How to measure at home
- Wrap a soft tape around your waist where you will wear the belt. Stand as you normally do and keep the tape snug, not tight.
- Find that number in the waist column.
- Or measure a belt that fits you, from the base of the buckle's prong to the hole you use most. Hermès asks you to measure this way, and sizes its belts in cm.
- Designer belt sizes are lengths in cm, but each designer measures to its own hole: Gucci to the centre hole, Louis Vuitton to the third hole.

Common questions
What size belt do I need?
Dents says to add 2 inches to your trouser size, so 34 inch trousers take a 36 inch belt. For jeans or low rise trousers, add 3 or 4 inches more.
What Gucci belt size is a 32 waist?
Gucci's men's chart puts US trousers 32 with a Gucci 90, which is 90 cm or 35.4 inches long. That is for a belt worn on the hips; for the waist, Gucci says to take one size down.
How are Gucci belt sizes measured?
From the end of the buckle to the centre hole. The size is the length in cm: a Gucci 85 is 85 cm, or 33.5 inches.
What Louis Vuitton belt size is a 34 waist?
Louis Vuitton's men's guide matches US trousers 34 with a 100 cm belt. Louis Vuitton measures from the buckle to the third hole.
How do Hermès belt sizes work?
Hermès sizes its belts in cm. Measure a belt you own from the base of the prong to the hole you use most, or measure your waist where you wear a belt. Hermès gives the example that an 85 cm waist takes a Hermès 85.
