London designer boutiques: 9 shops with addresses and hours

Dover Street Market is at 18 to 22 Haymarket, SW1Y 4DG, and the door is round the corner on Orange Street. It left Dover Street in March 2016, so a guide that still sends you there is a decade out. The rest of the best buying is on Chiltern Street, Brewer Street, Hanbury Street, Shacklewell Lane, and a Belgravia back lane that used to be a dairy.

That rent figure is Cushman and Wakefield's, published 19 November 2025, across 141 locations. New Bond Street passed Via Montenapoleone in Milan at US$2,179 and Upper Fifth Avenue in New York at US$2,000. That is what a doorman costs.

Matchesfashion went into administration in March 2024, about three months after Frasers Group bought it for £52 million, and it has not traded since.

Mayfair keeps the flagships, Belgravia kept the shop

Mayfair does very little buying now. Mount Street and Bond Street are mono brand territory, where the decisions were taken in Paris or Milan.

The exception is Browns, at 39 Brook Street since 2021, in a listed building the Milan practice Dimorestudio restored for it. Browns has not been independent since Farfetch bought it in 2015, and Farfetch itself was bought out of administration by Coupang in 2024. You can read that off the racks: the buy is broad, safe and group sized.

egg has been in a converted dairy at 36 Kinnerton Street since 1994. Maureen Doherty opened it to sell, in the shop's own words, the beautiful and everyday, and lunch is cooked in the kitchen upstairs. Open Tuesday to Saturday, 10 to 6, Monday by appointment.

Marylebone, where the buyer is still in the shop

Trunk Clothiers at 8 Chiltern Street was opened by Mats Klingberg in 2010. Aspesi, Boglioli, Caruso, Incotex, Kaptain Sunshine, Paraboot, Alden and Ring Jacket, beside its own line, weighted to Japan, Europe and the United States. Eleven to seven on weekdays, eleven to six on Saturday, noon to five on Sunday.

Klingberg opened a second shop in Zurich in 2018. Wrong for you if you want a logo on the outside of anything.

Mouki Mou is at 29 Chiltern Street, where Maria Lemos named the shop for her daughter and says so on her own site. She asks customers to slow down, to look and touch and smell. Wrong for you if you are shopping between meetings.

Soho and Haymarket buy what is not proven yet

Machine-A is at 13 Brewer Street, W1F 0RH, open noon to eight Monday to Saturday and noon to six on Sunday. It calls itself a concept store dedicated to the discovery of what is next. In practice: Rick Owens and Vivienne Westwood on the same floor as designers with one season behind them.

Dover Street Market runs 11 to 7 Monday to Saturday and noon to 6 on Sunday. It works less like a shop than like a building let to designers, each stand built by the label standing in it. Nobody will sell you anything, which most people want and some find cold.

The buying that matters moved out of Mayfair years ago, and Mayfair kept the doormen.

Notting Hill and the east

Couverture & The Garbstore opened in 2008 at 188 Kensington Park Road, W11 2ES, in three floors of a former timberyard. Couverture womenswear, jewellery and homeware above, The Garbstore menswear in the basement, and the shop's own TDR line through both. Ten to six Monday to Saturday, noon to five on Sunday.

LN-CC is at 18 to 24 Shacklewell Lane, E8 2EZ, in Dalston, down a tunnel into a space built by the set designer Gary Card. It buys the harder end of the same names Dover Street Market carries, and it sells by appointment as readily as off the floor.

Goodhood is at 15 Hanbury Street, E1 6QR, between Spitalfields Market and Brick Lane, open 11 to 7 Monday to Saturday and 11 to 6 on Sunday. It spent seven years on Coronet Street and ten on Curtain Road before this address. Menswear, womenswear, homeware and beauty under one roof.

Before you go

Chiltern Street does not open until eleven on a weekday and Brewer Street not until noon, so an early start is an hour in a coffee shop. egg closes on Sunday and opens Monday by appointment only, so build the week around it. Go on a Tuesday, start on Chiltern Street at eleven, and be at Kinnerton Street before six, when egg locks the dairy door.
