Where to shop in Milan: the streets, and what each is for

The Galleria and the Duomo: go for Prada

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II opened in 1877, next to the Duomo. Prada has had a shop there since 1913. In September 2026 it opened Prada Galleria, a complex of 8 floors.

The women's and men's shops are now linked by an underground passage, and the building also holds the Pradasphere exhibition and the Marchesi 1824 pastry shop.

The Re-Edition 2005 is the one to buy in Milan: 11.2 percent is the widest gap here, before any refund. In Italy the VAT is 22 percent, and the Italy buying note has the refund rules. For Prada at a very different price, the 18 items on within start at CAD 200, used, at Utopia in Yorkville.

La Rinascente, the department store on Piazza del Duomo, was founded in Milan in 1865 and is the easy way to see many labels at once.

Prada's original shop now has a permanent exhibition upstairs. Go there first.

The Quadrilatero: the big names

The Quadrilatero della Moda is four streets: Via Montenapoleone, Via Manzoni, Via della Spiga and Corso Venezia. Cushman & Wakefield ranked Via Montenapoleone the most expensive shopping street in the world in 2024.

Corso Buenos Aires: for everything else

North of the centre, Corso Buenos Aires has more than 350 shops on one street, the most clothing stores on any street in Europe by Wikipedia's count. It is not a luxury street, and that is why it is useful. Go here for the chains and the everyday things you forgot to pack.

Porta Ticinese, the 5 Vie and Corso Genova: independents and vintage

South of the Duomo the shops get smaller. In the 5 Vie, Cavalli e Nastri at Via Gian Giacomo Mora 3 sells Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Chanel, and Wait and See is at Via Santa Marta 14.

On Corso di Porta Ticinese, an archive shop at number 48 deals in Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Gucci and Chanel. The vintage list has all 5.

Biffi has been on Corso Genova at number 6 since 1959, and it is still family run. 10 Corso Como began in 1990 as a gallery Carla Sozzani opened in a vacant garage. It is a shop and a café in one, so it is worth a coffee even if you buy nothing.
