Is Farfetch legit? Yes, and Canada is duty paid

Farfetch is legit, launched in 2008 and owned by Coupang since 2024, and a Canadian order lands duty paid with 30 days to send it back.

Yes, Farfetch is legit: it launched in 2008, and Canada is on its list of duty paid destinations. So the Rick Owens boots in your bag at midnight arrive with nothing left to pay the courier.

Rick Owens, on the shelf.

That makes Farfetch one of the easier foreign sites for a Canadian, because the duty sits inside the price and comes back with a return. Every Farfetch rule below comes from its own Canadian FAQ and terms, read 3 October 2026.

The catch is one word: agent. Farfetch sells for its partner boutiques, so the boutique holding your boots sets the price and accepts the return.

Quick facts

  • Launched: 2008, and owned by Coupang since 2024
  • Duty to Canada: in the final price; a courier parcel from outside the US and Mexico owes duty and tax above CAD 20
  • Shipping: sent within 2 business days, 2 to 7 business days to arrive
  • Returns: 30 days from delivery by Free Collection, delivery cost not refunded
  • Clothing duty: most clothing pays 17 or 18 per cent
  • On within: 8,056 pieces from 341 designers at six boutiques, 34 of them by Rick Owens from $400, read 3 October 2026

The seller is a boutique, and Farfetch is its agent

Farfetch.com launched in 2008. It bought Browns Fashion in 2015, Stadium Goods in 2018 and Luxclusif in 2021, and in 2024 Coupang bought Farfetch. The reach shows in its FAQ, which says Farfetch "sources products from a global network of luxury boutiques."

Its Canadian terms put the arrangement in one sentence: "We are acting as agent on behalf of the Partners, which are the principals." In plain words, the boutique sells and Farfetch runs the site. The terms promise to say when Farfetch itself is the seller, and Farfetch.com US LLC runs the site for Canada.

Prices follow the same logic. Each brand and partner boutique sets its own, so the same item can cost a different amount depending on where it ships from and where you are. A bag or wishlist holds no price either: placing a piece there "won't reserve it at a particular price."

Duty paid against duty at the border

Canada is on Farfetch's Delivery Duties Paid list. The FAQ gives the meaning in one line. "This means that all applicable duties and taxes are included in the final price when you place your order and there are no additional costs due upon delivery."

A Delivery At Place order works the other way, with the buyer paying duties and taxes to the courier. Canada is not one of those.

It matters because of the border. By the Canada Border Services Agency's own page, a courier parcel from any country other than the US and Mexico owes duty and tax above CAD 20. Most clothing then pays 17 or 18 per cent duty, as the note on duty on clothes into Canada sets out.

From the US or Mexico, a courier parcel is duty and tax free to CAD 40 and owes taxes only to CAD 150. The duty paid line spares you that arithmetic either way.

Once an order is confirmed, Farfetch sends it within 2 business days, and delivery takes 2 to 7 business days. Order from several boutiques and the pieces arrive separately.

Sending it back, duty included

You have 30 days from delivery, not from the order (set a reminder the day the parcel lands). Free Collection takes it back, and the refund, less the delivery cost, follows once the boutique accepts the return. On a duty paid order, taxes and duties come back through Farfetch too.

Remember that last line. On a Delivery At Place order, they would not come back through Farfetch.

The FAQ prints its pre owned grades: Unworn with tags, Unworn, Excellent and Good. Excellent is previously owned and worn, but like new. Good means some signs of use, which can include fading, patina or scratches.

Read the grade before the price. If the designer provided branded boxes, dust bags or cases, they come in the parcel too.

You are buying from a boutique you will never walk into, so read its name before you pay.

For the one who wants to walk in

within is the same shape, smaller: its returns page says the boutique named at checkout "sells the piece and sets the return terms." The six boutiques are all in Toronto: prices in CAD, no border for a Canadian, pickup at the counter. Six shops against a global network is a real limit.

Rick Owens comes from a resale counter at 132 Cumberland Street: 34 pieces, from $400. Its pre owned pieces carry photos of their condition, every flaw included.

Returns are the fair comparison. Farfetch runs one return policy for every boutique, while each shop here writes its own. That counter is Utopia, where every sale is final, and WDLT117 gives an exchange or store credit within 14 days of delivery, without refunding return shipping.

Before you pay

Read the seller name on the product page. That boutique set the price and will accept the return.

A Bottega Veneta bag and Rick Owens boots from two boutiques arrive separately. Two boutiques, two parcels, two returns.

Screenshot the checkout total with the duties in it, and make sure it reads CAD. The 30 days start when it lands.

Two notes go further: SSENSE and Farfetch return policies, side by side and is SSENSE legit. The same questions apply to any marketplace you shop: who sells it, who prices it, who takes it back.

Common questions

Is FARFETCH a legitimate website?

Yes, Farfetch is a legitimate website, launched in 2008 and owned by Coupang since 2024. It sells as an agent for its partner boutiques, and its FAQ says "all our items are guaranteed authentic."

Does FARFETCH deliver to Canada?

Yes, on a Delivery Duties Paid basis, so duties and taxes are in the final price. It ships within 2 business days, and delivery takes 2 to 7 business days.

Is FARFETCH in USD or CAD?

The currency is set by your delivery destination and shown at checkout before you order. Farfetch's Canadian Rick Owens page reads in CAD, and without a local currency, orders go in USD.

Why is Farfetch so cheap?

Farfetch's prices are set by each brand and partner boutique. The FAQ says the price of the same item "may vary depending on where it's coming from and your location."

What's going on with FARFETCH?

Farfetch belongs to Coupang, whose purchase of its assets completed on 31 January 2024. Coupang named Farfetch among its brands in the annual report it filed on 26 February 2026. Farfetch.com US LLC runs the Canadian site, and who owns which designer site maps the rest.
