Canada's Wonderland WinterFest 2026: what to wear

Canada's Wonderland WinterFest runs 23 nights from 21 November, and every coaster makes you take your scarf off, so wear the warmth in your coat.

WinterFest runs on 23 select nights at Canada's Wonderland in Vaughan, from Saturday 21 November 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027. Hours are 3 pm to 9 pm on the November and December nights, then noon to 8 pm every day from 26 December.

IN STOCK NOW

C.P. Company, Les Deux and Canada Goose, on the shelf.

Dress for the rides first and the cold second, because one line in the park's attire rules decides the outfit. On every roller coaster, and on Riptide, Skyhawk, SlingShot, Soaring Timbers and Spinovator, "scarves will be required to be removed in their entirety."

On opening night the sun is down by 4:47 pm, and in the coaster line under the lights your scarf ends up balled in a pocket. So put the warmth in a high collar or a hood, and wear boots that lace or zip tight.

Quick facts

  • Nights: 23 by our count of Visit Vaughan's listing, from Saturday 21 November 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027.
  • Hours: 3 pm to 9 pm through 23 December, noon to 8 pm from 26 December.
  • Where: 1 Canada's Wonderland Drive, Vaughan, just north of Toronto, open since 1981.
  • Dark: sunset at 4:47 pm on 21 November, civil twilight over by 5:19 pm.
  • Ride rules: scarves off entirely on every roller coaster, and loose shoes may come off before 14 named rides.
  • Getting there: TTC Line 1 to Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, then the 20 or 310 bus up Jane Street and a 5 minute walk.
  • On within: 271 pieces on the men's hats shelf, 228 women's hats, and 45 pairs of women's boots against 26 men's; counts and CAD prices read 16 October 2026.

November nights against December nights

Environment Canada's 1991 to 2020 normals come from Buttonville, north of the city like the park. November there has a high of 7.4°C and a low of minus 0.8°C, with 11.7 cm of snow. December falls to 1.5°C and minus 5.8°C, with 32.8 cm.

Sunset barely moves, to 4:43 pm by 19 December. The cold does, so November is a down jacket month and December a parka month. The season ends in January, when the normal low is minus 10.1°C.

For the coaster line, the collar does the scarf's job

Loose clothing must be "significantly secured or removed" so it cannot interfere with the ride restraints, the park's page says. A balaclava has no loose end, and it folds into a pocket if it has to come off.

The C.P. Company 301A balaclava in black is $305 at Due West (431 Queen St W). For colour, WDLT117 has the MM6 Maison Margiela distressed balaclava in beige for $339, and beige against a black parka makes the better photo.

Feet are the second rule. Yukon Striker and Drop Tower are on the park's shoe list, so wear a boot you can tighten. Due West sells the Stutterheim Leather Patrol Boot in black for $225.

If your feet run cold, the Timberland 6 Inch Premium Warm Fur Lined boot in wheat gold is $195 at Utopia. Fur lining is the part of its name I would pay for on a minus 5.8°C night.

For the lights walk, hands and ears go first

The Santa Claus Parade's history page says in 2020 the parade was filmed at Canada's Wonderland, its first made for television production. Over 25 floats were lit under WinterFest's lights.

Now the park's page promises "millions of shimmering lights," and you take them in standing still. That is when fingers and ears go cold.

The hat to wear under a hood is the Les Deux Signature Beanie, $99 in black at Due West. My pick is Gramicci's G-Zero Primaloft hat in cola, $115 there, because brown with a black parka looks chosen.

Gloves are the thin shelf, 9 pieces for men and 8 on the women's gloves shelf, so buy them first. In black at Due West: the Y-3 Padded Glove for $145, the COOR pleated leather gloves for $185 and Canada Goose's women's down gloves for $219. The leather photographs better, but the down is the pair for after dark.

For a night with children, rent the stroller early

A single stroller rents for $17 plus tax and a double for $26 plus tax, first come and never reserved. Arrive near opening if you need one. Electronic convenience vehicles are not available during WinterFest, so plan the night on foot.

Mitts go on small hands faster than gloves at a ride exit. The Canada Goose kids' Arctic Down Mitts cost $99 in black at Due West (clip a spare pair to the stroller handle).

The coat, for men and for women

A scarf you have to pocket is not warmth you can count on.

For men, Due West has the Moose Knuckles 3Q down parka in black for $1,395, and Canada Goose's Expedition down parka in red for $1,745. Red is easy for friends to spot after dark.

For women, the Moose Knuckles Stirling down parka costs $839 in black, the lowest here, and the Mackage Jeni-FZ down parka is $1,490.

I would not buy a $1,745 parka for WinterFest alone. For more, read the winter coat guide and what to wear to the Royal Winter Fair.

Getting there, and what to bring

Take TTC Line 1 to its last stop, Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, at Highway 7 and Millway Avenue. From the SmartCentres Place Bus Terminal beside it, the 20 or 310 bus runs up Jane Street to Norwood Av, a 5 minute walk from the park.

YRT routes 320 and 360 also go to the park. The GO bus extensions run only from 25 April to 30 August 2026, so none serve WinterFest. By car, take Highway 400 north to exit 33 for Rutherford Road, then Canada's Wonderland Drive north.

Outside food, drinks, coolers and glass stay out; baby food, formula, bottled water and refillable bottles are fine. The park's page printed no WinterFest ticket price on 16 October 2026, and Visit Vaughan's listing says only "See prices online."

WinterFest lasts 23 nights, and the parka you buy for it is the coat you will still be wearing to the bus stop in March.

Common questions

Are rides open at Canada's Wonderland during WinterFest?

Some are: the park's WinterFest page promises "select attractions." Rides close in extreme temperatures, heavy rain, high winds or lightning, so check the park's site that day.

Is Canada's Wonderland now Six Flags?

Online, yes: the park's website lives on the Six Flags site, and its footer reads "© 2026 Six Flags Entertainment Corporation." The park itself has been open in Vaughan since 1981.

What to wear to a winter wonderland?

A down parka with a hood or high collar, a hat, gloves and boots that lace or zip tight, since scarves come off for coasters. The Moose Knuckles shelf has 77 pieces at 2 boutiques, the $839 Stirling parka among them.

Every business above is independent, was verified open as of August 2026, and nobody paid to be here. If one has closed or moved, tell us at hello@shopwithin.co and we will fix it.
