Who owns Fear of God Essentials, and why PacSun never did

Fear of God Essentials is owned by Fear of God, LLC, Jerry Lorenzo's company, which has had no chief executive since April 2026, and PacSun only sold it.

Fear of God, LLC owns Essentials, a company that Complex called independently owned in February 2026. The label on the hood of a Classic Hoodie already says so: Essentials Fear of God.

Nobody bought Essentials, and I understand the PacSun guess. PacSun gave the line its first wide release in April 2018, and WWD reported in January 2023 that a PacSun chief executive moved to Fear of God. Neither makes PacSun the owner.

The other guess is a luxury group, since a forum post put Fear of God beside The Row. The USD 160 Essentials hoodie and the USD 1,100 Italian one come from the same company.

Quick facts

  • Owner: Fear of God, LLC, which Complex called independently owned on 6 February 2026.

  • First wide release: PacSun, April 2018, after a first run through SSENSE.
  • Leadership: no chief executive since April 2026, when the company dropped the role, as Hypebeast reported.

The site sells Essentials itself, under the vendor name ESSENTIALS, beside the main line (the brand site uses capital letters for the line, while retailers write it plain). Complex wrote on 6 February 2026 that the label pushed streetwear forward since launching in 2013, calling it independently owned.

No report read on 21 October 2026 names an outside owner or investor, and the company publishes no ownership split.

The label says Fear of God because it is Fear of God

Essentials is the company second line. Hypebeast reported on 18 April 2018 that the brand introduced its new ESSENTIALS diffusion line last month, which dates it to March 2018, with SSENSE first and PacSun after. Lorenzo wanted it at an accessible price, saying it was important that the collection felt honest and not watered down from the main line.

The Classic Hoodie carries an Essentials Fear of God label on the hood. On the USD 1,100 Double Knit Hoodie, the same place holds the Fear of God four stitch label. What the name means is another question, and this note leaves it alone.

Who runs it now, after PacSun and Jacquemus

The PacSun thread runs through people. On 26 January 2023, Shop Eat Surf reported in a headline that PacSun Alfred Chang was named Fear of God chief executive.

Bastien Daguzan, formerly chief executive of Jacquemus, joined in 2024, and The Business of Fashion ran the hire on 5 September 2024. Hypebeast reported on 9 April 2026 that Daguzan left and the company eliminated the chief executive role from its structure.

Lorenzo is reportedly preparing to take on a significantly larger role, Joyce Li wrote, while a spokesperson declined to comment on corporate management. Hypebeast also reports the brand grew moderately in 2025 and its own website sales doubled.

The owner is the one suing over fakes

Fear of God sued several parties over unlicensed, counterfeit and infringing versions of its products, which Complex covered on 11 August 2026. Investigators bought pieces through a TikTok live auction, and the LAPD served a search warrant and seized the counterfeits.

The suit seeks profits, damages and a jury trial, though the report names no defendants and gives no figures. If you are bidding in a live auction, check how to tell if an Essentials hoodie is real first.

PacSun sold the first wide run. It never owned the label.

Three lines, one owner

Essentials, the 2018 line, makes its case with its plainest hoodie. The FW26 Classic Hoodie is 380 gram fleece with a kangaroo front pocket and rib knit cuffs, for USD 160. Across the brand 167 Essentials hoodie listings, prices run USD 140 to 215, with a median of USD 175.

The Essentials hoodies at the boutique come to 42 pieces, CAD 120 to 500, with a median of CAD 200. Season codes on the listings go back to FW19, so check the code and read Essentials hoodie sizing before you order.

Fear of God, the main line, dates from 2013. Its Double Knit Hoodie costs USD 1,100, crafted in Italy from cotton and nylon double knit. At the same boutique, the Fear of God main line runs to 43 pieces in pants, hoodies and hats.

The team lines take Essentials into sport. Lorenzo became Global Head of Adidas Basketball in 2020, and moved to adidas to develop Fear of God Athletics.

The brand menu lists NFL Essentials, NBA Essentials and MLB Essentials, and the Dallas Cowboys collection launched in August 2026. Hypebeast called it part of a partnership over several years between Jerry Lorenzo and the NFL. Its Training Camp Tee is USD 110 and the Boxy Fit Training Camp Crewneck USD 190.
