Why is Canada Goose so expensive? The factory, not the patch
Why is Canada Goose so expensive? It runs seven factories in Canada, and its Expedition costs CAD 1,995 there and about CAD 2,699 in the US.

Canada Goose is expensive because you pay for seven Canadian factories: its Expedition Parka costs CAD 1,995 at home. Its own US site asks USD 1,895 for the same coat, about CAD 2,699.
On 20 September 2026 a post on X put Canada Goose on a list of coats never to buy again, beside two words: "precio absurdo." Absurd price. It drew 3,509 likes and 207 replies.
A day later one reply answered for everyone who owns one: that absurd price bought a warm coat, and its owner has not been cold since. Both read the same number. Only the reply knew what the number was for.
Quick facts
- The Expedition Parka: CAD 1,995 in Canada, USD 1,895 in the US and GBP 1,675 in the UK, on Canada Goose's own sites, read 2 October 2026.
- In Canadian dollars: about CAD 2,699 in the US and CAD 3,151 in the UK, at the Bank of Canada's rates for 1 October 2026.
- Where it is sewn: 7 Canada Goose factories, 3 in the Greater Toronto Area, 3 in Winnipeg and 1 in Quebec.
- On within: 78 Canada Goose pieces at 2 boutiques, CAD 69 to 1,795 with a median of CAD 595, and 73 of them marked down, read 2 October 2026.
- The warranty: insulated outerwear is covered against manufacturing defects for its lifetime; knitwear and accessories for 2 years with the receipt.
For the deep cold, a parka built for scientists
Sam Tick founded Metro Sportswear in a small Toronto warehouse in 1957. His son in law, David Reiss, invented a machine that fills down by volume and started a label called Snow Goose. It became Canada Goose.
In the 1980s the company built the Expedition Parka for the scientists at McMurdo Station in Antarctica. It became standard issue and earned a nickname: "Big Red." Today's Expedition is 80% duck down and 20% feathers in an Arctic Tech shell, rated TEI 5 for minus 30°C and below.
That is a lot of coat, and its price grows with distance. It costs about CAD 704 more in the US and about CAD 1,156 more in the UK.
The German site asks EUR 1,525 for the Wyndham Parka, about CAD 2,445, against CAD 1,595 at home. (The reader in Europe who called that price "a lot of money" was looking at about CAD 850 more than a Canadian pays.)
For the summit, a pink parka with a history
In 1982 Laurie Skreslet became the first Canadian to stand on top of Mount Everest. He wore a custom parka made by Metro Sportswear. Canada Goose released it again in 2011 as the Skreslet Parka.
Due West has one in Summit Pink, marked down to CAD 995 from CAD 1,250. It is rated TEI 5, filled with 750 fill power white duck down and fully seam sealed. Inside is a mesh pocket made to hold a water bottle.
On a mountain, that is the pocket that matters.
For a city winter, parkas with a cause
In 2007 Canada Goose joined Polar Bears International; two thirds of the world's polar bears live in Canada, its history page says. The women's Chilliwack bomber in royal blue sends a portion of each sale to that research. It is CAD 1,345, down from CAD 1,725, and rated TEI 3 for minus 10°C to minus 20°C.
The rest of the city rack reads like a weather report. A Shelburne Parka in graphite is CAD 1,395, a Victoria in red CAD 995 and a Lorette in black CAD 1,495, all made in Canada. The Shelburne and the Victoria carry a removable fur ruff.
Canada Goose's own page says it stopped manufacturing with fur in 2022. So the shelf's Shelburne and the CAD 1,595 Shelburne on Canada Goose's own site share a name and not a make.
The patch looks the same everywhere. The price is lowest where the coat is sewn.

For the shoulder season, and for the second owner
Not everything with the disc is sewn in Canada. The Roncy lite jacket, 675 fill power goose down rated TEI 1 for 5°C to minus 5°C, is made in Canada and costs CAD 495. The Saturna crewneck beside it is Merino wool with a reflective yarn, made in Italy, CAD 395.
In 2023 Canada Goose launched Generations, its own resale platform, in the USA and Canada. Its warranty already follows a parka to its next owner, as long as the coat is traceable. A coat built to outlast its first owner is part of what you pay for.
Utopia has three pre owned Canada Goose pieces, each graded by the shop. An Erickson Parka is CAD 800, an Everett puffer CAD 600 and a Kensington Parka CAD 400. To sell your own, read about Canada Goose trade in.
Before you pay
Read the TEI on the tag against your own winter: 1, 3 and 5 are three different coats. Canada Goose's page says the Expedition runs large and to size down, and Canada Goose sizing covers the rest.
A sale is real here. The Canada Goose marked down shelf holds 73 pieces at Due West, and the range by category sits on Canada Goose prices. Sale items cannot be refunded there, so buy the size you mean to keep.
From abroad, Due West ships by UPS and Canada Post and does not cover duties or taxes on orders to the USA; read duty on clothes into the US first. A parka that feels too light is a question for how to spot a fake Canada Goose.
The patch on the sleeve is the same in every country. The factory behind it is in one.
Common questions
Which country is the cheapest to buy Canada Goose?
Canada, of the countries read on 2 October 2026. The Expedition Parka is CAD 1,995 there, about CAD 2,699 in the US and about CAD 3,151 in the UK.
Do Canada Goose ever go on sale?
Boutiques mark them down. On 2 October 2026 Due West had 73 Canada Goose pieces marked down, among them a women's Expedition Parka in red at CAD 1,695 from CAD 2,095.
How long will a Canada Goose jacket last?
