More Mackage on within

Moncler's Maya page, read the same day, gives no temperature at all. A rated Mackage parka gives a clearer temperature claim, though no page tests one against the other. The Edward X page listed CAD 1,690, with a back in stock notice when rechecked on 7 November 2026, against C$2,615 for a black men's Maya.

What Moncler offers is a different coat. The Maya is a short, glossy jacket you can wash at home, and second hand it can cost far less.

Quick facts

  • Mackage's coldest rating: minus 35°C, on the Edward X and Edward F parkas; the women's Trish X is rated to minus 30°C, CAD 1,690.
  • Moncler's rating: none printed on the Maya page; its padding is 90% down and 10% feather.
  • The down: Mackage's Edward X lists 800 fill power, 90% duck down and 10% feathers, recycled and traceable.
  • Care: the Maya is machine washable at 30°C; the Edward X needs a leather specialist's dry clean.
  • Founded: Moncler in 1952 in Monestier de Clermont, France; Mackage in 1999 in Montreal.
  • On within: 92 Mackage pieces at 2 shops and 13 Moncler pieces at Utopia, read 18 October 2026.

Which one is warmer?

Nobody can say for sure, because only one of the two puts a number on it. The Edward X's page says "Temperature Rating: -35°C", and the Trish X's copy says it is engineered for minus 30°C. Only 142 of Mackage's 394 products print a temperature, so check the page of the coat you want.

Moncler does not rate the Maya in degrees. The Maya's page lists a nylon laqué shell, a detachable hood and down padding, and no rating in degrees. Its fill is 90% down and 10% feather, the same split as the Edward X, with no fill power given.

So the fair answer is this. If you need a coat rated for a deep freeze, Mackage tells you which of its coats are. Moncler leaves you to judge from the cut, and the Maya is cut short, 67 cm from collar to hem.

What does each one cost?

For these coats, Mackage costs less. On its Canadian site, the Edward X, marked as a sale price, and the Trish X are CAD 1,690 each. Moncler's Canadian site asked C$2,615 for the black Maya on 18 October 2026, C$3,200 for the Maya Matte and C$3,975 for the Himalaya.

The resale shelf narrows that gap. At Utopia that day, a new Moncler Maya in size 4 asked CAD 2,000, and a new Montcla short down jacket CAD 2,500. A pre owned Tibb down vest asked CAD 800, where Moncler lists the Tibb at C$1,575.

At Due West, the warmest Mackage pieces were rated to minus 25°C. The Nicholas parka asked CAD 2,390, and the Graydon Z parka CAD 1,450.

One label gives you a number; the other gives you a name.

Who makes them, and where?

Moncler is older, and it is now an Italian company. René Ramillon and André Vincent founded it in 1952 in Monestier de Clermont, near Grenoble. Remo Ruffini bought it in 2003 and moved it to Milan, and it has been listed on the Milan stock exchange since 2013.

Moncler's pages name the country on each piece. The black Maya says made in Italy or Romania; the beige one says Romania.

Mackage was founded in Montreal in 1999, by its own history page, and says its name as "muh kaj". The McCord Stewart Museum names its founders as Eran Elfassy and Elisa Dahan. Our note on whether Mackage is Canadian covers who owns it and where its coats are sewn.

Which one is easier to keep?

The Maya, by a distance. Its care label says machine wash at 30°C on a mild cycle, no tumble dryer and no dry cleaning. You can look after it at home.

The Edward X carries real fur: a detachable silver fox collar and rabbit. Its care line reads "Dry clean by leather specialist using oil based solvent only."

Mackage's warranty covers manufacturing defects for the practical lifetime of the product. It excludes fur unless a style is found defective, and it is void if the inside labels are removed.

Who should buy which

  • Buy Mackage if you want a printed rating and a longer parka, like the Edward X at its lower price.
  • Buy Moncler if you want a short jacket you can wash at home and the Maya's shape.
  • Buy Moncler second hand if the price matters; the resale Maya asked CAD 2,000 against C$2,615 new from Moncler.

The answer in brief

Mackage rates the Edward X for minus 35°C and lists CAD 1,690. That is a stated rating, not proof that it is warmer than the Maya.

Moncler's Maya prints no temperature and asked C$2,615 on 18 October 2026, with 90% down and a machine washable shell. Buy the Edward X for a rated parka; buy the Maya for the short jacket and the easier care.
