Fluid pleats
Garment pleated tops and fluid trousers that fold and breathe with movement.
Fluid pleats are permanent pleats set into light cloth, so jackets, trousers and tops fold and move with the body. They replace stiff tailoring with soft pieces that keep their pleats, here mostly in black, with some burgundy.
Miyake began this method in the late eighties: each piece is cut and sewn first, then pressed between sheets of paper in a heat press. In nineteen ninety one he used it for costumes for William Forsythe's Frankfurt Ballet, work that led to the women's line Pleats Please. Homme Plisse Issey Miyake has made men's clothes this way since twenty thirteen, and the label calls them wrinkle resistant, quick to dry and light.
WDLT117 in Toronto brings Homme Plisse Issey Miyake pleated jackets, trousers and tops. Wear the trousers with a matching top or a cardigan and plain leather shoes.
