Hats and caps here run from Chrome Hearts trucker hats and Supreme caps to cashmere beanies, nylon bucket hats and soft wide brim hats. A cap or a beanie puts a designer's mark on plain clothes, and a brimmed hat changes the shape of a whole outfit.
The trucker hat began as a free cap that farm supply companies gave to farmers and drivers, with a foam front for the logo and a mesh back. Chrome Hearts, founded in Los Angeles in the late eighties, puts its cross patches on that shape. Supreme opened as a skate shop in Manhattan in the mid nineties and puts its box logo on caps and beanies. Kijima Takayuki, a Tokyo milliner who trained under Akio Hirata, makes soft hats and caps.
