Hats and caps

Trucker hats, caps, beanies and bucket hats from Chrome Hearts, Supreme, Kapital and more.

Hats and caps here run from Chrome Hearts trucker hats and Supreme caps to cashmere beanies, nylon bucket hats and soft wide brim hats. A cap or a beanie puts a designer's mark on plain clothes, and a brimmed hat changes the shape of a whole outfit.

The trucker hat began as a free cap that farm supply companies gave to farmers and drivers, with a foam front for the logo and a mesh back. Chrome Hearts, founded in Los Angeles in the late eighties, puts its cross patches on that shape. Supreme opened as a skate shop in Manhattan in the mid nineties and puts its box logo on caps and beanies. Kijima Takayuki, a Tokyo milliner who trained under Akio Hirata, makes soft hats and caps.

Wear a cap with a hoodie or a plain coat, a cashmere beanie with a wool overcoat, and a bucket hat with a nylon jacket. Utopia in Toronto brings Chrome Hearts, Supreme and Chanel, WDLT117 brings Kijima Takayuki, Undercover and MM6 Maison Margiela, and Outlined adds Supreme and Godspeed.

Common questions

What is the difference between a trucker hat and a baseball cap?

A trucker hat has a high foam front and a mesh back, while a baseball cap is cotton or wool all the way round. A snapback closes with a snap at the back, a strapback with a strap, and a fitted cap has neither.

How do you style a trucker hat?

Keep the rest plain, so a trucker hat with a cross patch or a logo sits over a grey hoodie, a white tee or a black coat. Let it be the one loud piece of the outfit.

Where did the trucker hat come from?

Farm supply companies in the United States gave away mesh back caps with their names on the front, and farmers and truck drivers wore them. People called them feed caps, and they became a fashion piece in the early two thousands.
