Canada Goose vs Arc'teryx: which down parka is warmer?
Canada Goose rates its parkas by temperature and Arc'teryx does not. The Expedition and Langford against the Therme and Macai, plus warranty and price.
Canada Goose TEI 5 parkas have a stated rating for minus 30°C and below. Arc'teryx says it does not give its products temperature ratings, and builds down parkas like the Therme for cold, wet weather under a waterproof GORE-TEX shell.

So the fair fight is parka against parka. Arc'teryx's best known jacket, the Alpha SV, is an uninsulated shell, and it was never meant to compete with an Expedition Parka.

- Down: 625 fill white duck down in all 9 Canada Goose coats we read; 750 fill grey goose down in the Therme and Macai
- Warranty: lifetime of the product on Canada Goose insulated outerwear; "Practical Product Lifespan" at Arc'teryx

Which is warmer, Canada Goose or Arc'teryx?
Canada Goose rates every parka on its Thermal Experience Index, a five point scale. TEI 3 is rated for minus 10°C to minus 20°C, and TEI 4 for minus 15°C to minus 25°C. TEI 5 is for minus 30°C and below.

Arc'teryx gives no such number. Answering a shopper on its Therme Down Parka page in February 2026, Arc'teryx Guest Services wrote that "we do not assign specific temperature ratings to our products." It said warmth depends on activity level, layering and personal comfort.
The same answer shows why fill power alone does not settle it. Arc'teryx said the Therme feels warmer than its Thorium Hoody, with less down, because of its GORE-TEX shell, heavier face fabric and longer cut.
Canada Goose sells you a rating. Arc'teryx sells you a shell with down inside.
Parka against parka
The Canada Goose Expedition Parka is TEI 5, relaxed in fit and mid thigh in length, filled with 625 fill power white duck down. The Langford Black Label is TEI 4 and slim, with the same fill.
The Arc'teryx Therme Down Parka uses 750 fill power European grey goose down, with synthetic insulation mapped into areas where moisture builds. Its shell is GORE-TEX ePE, with an insulated StormHood. Arc'teryx sells it for "cold, wet conditions," and notes that it runs large.
The Arc'teryx Macai Down Jacket is a ski jacket, designed for cold days at the resort. It pairs 750 fill goose down with 140 gsm Coreloft synthetic insulation under GORE-TEX, and adds a removable helmet compatible hood, a powder skirt and pit vents.
Length differs too. Arc'teryx gives a centre back length of 34 inches for a medium Therme and 30 inches for a medium Macai.
Which to buy, by use case
For long waits outside in still, deep cold, a TEI 5 Canada Goose parka is the only coat here with a rating for minus 30°C and below. TEI 4, rated to minus 25°C, covers most colder winter days.
For wet cold and downpours, the Therme is the closer match. Arc'teryx built it for wet weather and trips around town, with a waterproof, windproof shell.
For skiing, the Macai is the one designed for it, with a helmet compatible hood, powder skirt and vents. For hiking and climbing, Arc'teryx's shell and layer approach, an Alpha SV over insulation, still makes more sense than any parka.
Sporting Life calls TEI 3 the most popular warmth for a Canada Goose coat. It also advises weighing whether you run cold, how you layer and how active you are before you trust a rating.
Warranty: lifetime against practical lifespan
Canada Goose warrants its insulated outerwear against manufacturing defects for the lifetime of the product. That cover passes to later owners if the product is traceable, and the product tags must be intact. Normal wear, accidents and improper care are excluded.
Arc'teryx covers apparel for its "Practical Product Lifespan," which it says "does not mean for your lifetime." You must be the original purchaser, with proof of purchase from an authorized Arc'teryx dealer, and wear and tear, rips and down migration are excluded.
That gap matters on resale. A traceable pre owned Canada Goose parka can still carry its warranty, and a second hand Arc'teryx cannot, by the brand's own terms. Pieces bought through Canada Goose's own Generations resale programme get a limited warranty of up to one year instead.
Where each is made, and who owns it
Canada Goose was founded by Sam Tick in a small Toronto warehouse in 1957, as Metro Sportswear. Due West's Canada Goose listings say the brand "manufactures 100% of their signature outerwear at home." More on the owners is in who owns Canada Goose.
Arc'teryx began in North Vancouver in 1989 and is still based there. Its ARC'One factory is in New Westminster, and it also works with partner factories abroad. Arc'teryx's pages list the Therme as made in Vietnam and the Macai in China.
Its parent, Amer Sports, has been controlled since 2019 by a group led by Anta Sports, as our note on whether Arc'teryx is Canadian explains.

Canada Goose vs Arc'teryx, in short
Canada Goose is the brand that rates warmth: TEI 5 parkas are rated for minus 30°C and below. Arc'teryx does not assign temperature ratings, and its Therme and Macai pair 750 fill goose down with GORE-TEX for cold, wet weather and skiing.
Pick Canada Goose for still, deep cold, and Arc'teryx for wet cold, the slopes and layering. Canada Goose's insulated outerwear warranty runs for the product's lifetime and can pass to later owners; Arc'teryx's covers the original buyer only.
