Hoodies
Heavyweight fleece, boxy zip-ups and graphic hoodies.
Hoodies anchor modern dressing through heavyweight cotton fleece cut in relaxed shapes that balance comfort with structure. Dropped shoulders, boxy torsos and deep hoods shape a clean silhouette across muted black, grey and white. Champion made the first hooded sweatshirts in the thirties, for workers in cold New York warehouses and for athletes on the sidelines. Hip hop in New York took the hoodie up in the seventies, and skaters and surfers in California wore it too.
Balenciaga makes its hoodies very large, with dropped shoulders. Chrome Hearts prints its gothic letters and crosses on heavy fleece. Supreme, started by James Jebbia in New York in the nineties, is best known for its box logo hoodie.
Pair wide leg wool trousers or pleated skirts with these substantial sweaters to balance the volume. Utopia in Toronto carries most of the wall, from Chrome Hearts and Supreme to Aime Leon Dore and Essentials. Due West adds Drôle de Monsieur, WDLT117 adds Homme Plisse Issey Miyake and Avavav, and Outlined adds FOG.
