New Balance in Toronto.
New Balance was founded in the Boston area in 1906 by William J. Riley. It began as the New Balance Arch Support Company. Riley's first product was a flexible arch support with three support points, an idea said to come from watching the chickens in his yard. Its Trackster running shoe came in a range of widths, and very narrow and very wide fittings are still part of the line. Jim Davis bought the company in 1972. It is privately held and based in Boston. It still makes some shoes in the United States and in England, the 990 series among them. Since 2021 Teddy Santis, founder of Aimé Leon Dore, has been creative director of its Made in USA line.
You can buy New Balance in Toronto at parlor23, 11 Willison Square, and Utopia, 132 Cumberland Street. In stock on 20 October 2026, from about $85.
