About Y-3

Y-3 is Yohji Yamamoto's label with adidas, and relaxed, functional tailoring is one of the codes he brings to it. Its 4D Runner of 2018, built on the Futurecraft 4D sole, came out in only 200 pairs.

The Tokyo born designer has made it with adidas since 2002. He said the clothes he was designing did not work on the street, so he phoned Nike, which turned him down, and then adidas, which said yes.

The two first showed at Paris Fashion Week in October 2002, and the first Y-3 collection was for spring and summer 2003. Yamamoto kept the palette to black, navy and white, with the three white stripes on black. For many years orange was the main colour of the logo.

The Qasa High of 2013 had a neoprene sock upper, stretch mesh, a leather toe cap and an EVA sole taken from adidas Tubular running shoes of the 1990s. Y-3 opened its first shop of its own in New York's West Village in 2008. The size charts for the clothes are on the Y-3 size page.

In Toronto, Due West at 431 Queen St W carries Y-3, and WDLT117 at 7 St Thomas Street in Yorkville has a few pieces. On 13 October 2026 its shirts ran from about $53 to $211, its hoodies from about $148 to $350 and its jackets and coats from about $148 to $632. Shorts ran from about $211 to $233, half of the shelf cost about $187 or less, and some pieces were marked down.
