Vintage Jeans

Pre owned and archival designer jeans for women and men from the world's best independent boutiques.

Vintage jeans are pre owned denim pants shaped by real wear and fading, from distressed designer pairs to wide leg cuts. Deep indigo and faded black cotton soften over time, and wear shows first behind the knees and across the lap. Jeans began as riveted work pants, patented by Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss in the eighteen seventies, and distressed denim came out of punk in the seventies.

Acne Studios, founded in Stockholm in the mid nineties, began its clothing with a small run of raw denim jeans with red stitching, given to friends and family. Ksubi, founded on Sydney's Northern Beaches in the late nineties, is known for its denim and its box cross logo. Amiri was launched by Mike Amiri, who first made stage clothes for musicians. Wear wide leg denim with a tailored jacket or coat.

Utopia in Toronto brings these jeans, nearly all of them pre owned, from Amiri, Purple Brand, Balmain, Ksubi and Acne Studios.

Common questions

How do you tell if vintage jeans are genuine?
Real wear leaves honeycombs, faded lines behind the knees, and whiskers, faded streaks across the lap. On designer pairs, check the labels, buttons and rivets, and read the seller's note on condition.
What goes best with vintage jeans?
Balance wide leg cuts with fitted tops or clean leather outerwear. Sturdy boots or classic trainers keep the hem break clean off the pavement.
Which designers are known for their jeans?
Acne Studios began in Stockholm with a small run of raw denim jeans given to friends and family. Ksubi started on Sydney's Northern Beaches when its founders began making their own jeans.
