Canada Goose legit check: is it real or fake?

Check a Canada Goose by its receipt and inside tags before the badge on the sleeve. Counterfeiters copy the badge on purpose: border officers once found 55,000 fake crests.

Answer each check with the piece in front of you, then press Check it. A check marked Counts most is a strong sign on its own. Every check comes from our guide, How to spot fake Canada Goose: the receipt before the badge.

  1. 1. Do you have the receipt, or know where the coat was bought?

Ask where the coat was bought, and ask for the receipt.

    What to look for

New Canada Goose comes, in the brand's words, from its website, its stores and authorized retailers. Used, the brand sells through Generations, which grades every piece.

Pass: Paper is what the brand checks.

Fail: A seller who lost a receipt years ago has done nothing wrong, but then tag photos are the fair ask.

  2. 2. Are the tags at the inner lining or seams still sewn in?

The tags at the inner lining or seam must be intact, because removing them stops the brand verifying the coat.

    What to look for

On down parkas and bombers the warranty lasts the life of the coat and passes to a later owner, provided the coat is traceable.

Pass: The brand can still trace the coat.

Fail: Without the tags, the brand cannot verify the coat.

  3. 3. Is there a hologram label inside (a polar bear, on coats from fall 2017)?Counts most

Fakes were often missing that hologram, the Canadian Press reported in 2018.

    What to look for

Canada Goose was sewing holograms into its seams by 2012. The label from fall 2017 has a polar bear image and elements you can see from different angles.

Pass: The hologram label is there.

Fail: Fakes were often missing that hologram, the Canadian Press reported in 2018.

  4. 4. Are "Canada" and "Arctic" spelled right everywhere on it?Counts most

Some fakes could not spell "Canada" or "Arctic".

    What to look for

Check the badge, the labels and the tags.

Pass: The words are spelled right.

Fail: Some fakes could not spell "Canada" or "Arctic". A misspelling is a strong sign.

  5. 5. Is the badge cleanly stitched, with even colour and well shaped maple leaves?

As it stood in October 2025, it listed poor embroidery, uneven colour in the stitching and misshapen maple leaves.

    What to look for

The crest shows the North Pole from above, ringed with maple leaves and the name. A black disc is no sign of a fake: the brand sells the same Langford with a black or a tonal disc.

Pass: The badge looks the way the brand makes it.

Fail: Poor embroidery, uneven colour and misshapen leaves are on the brand's own list of fake signs.

  6. 6. Does the fill label say duck down, as on a real Langford (80% duck down, 20% feathers)?

The brand's page, as it stood in 2025, said fakes use feather mulch or other fillers instead, often coated in bacteria, fungus or mildew.

    What to look for

A real Langford is made in Canada, where the brand runs seven factories of its own, and filled with 80% duck down and 20% feathers. The Chilliwack Bomber has the same fill.

Pass: The fill is what the brand uses.

Fail: Feather mulch or other fillers are what the brand said fakes use.

  7. 7. If the hood has fur, was the coat made in 2022 or earlier?Counts most

Canada Goose bought no fur after 2021 and stopped making anything with fur in 2022.

    What to look for

Its ruffs were coyote, thick in the brand's words, where counterfeit fur looked "scraggly, tangled and sometimes dirty".

Pass: The date fits a real fur ruff.

Fail: The brand made nothing with fur after 2022, so a newer coat with a fur ruff does not fit.

  8. 8. Is the ask close to the brand's own used prices?

Set the ask against the brand's own used prices: a Langford in Good condition at USD 743, and Excellent pieces at about 70 percent of their new price.

    What to look for

New on the brand's Canadian site: a Langford Parka is CAD 1,695 and a Chilliwack Bomber CAD 1,450. At $400 the price settles nothing either way: a worn, real Canada Goose can ask that much.

Pass: The ask fits a real coat in that condition.

Fail: The price tells you how hard to look. The paper tells you what you are looking at.

What proves nothing

  • The badge on its own: it is what a fake studies. Border officers in Germany and France once found 55,000 fake copies of it.
  • A black disc instead of a red one: the brand sells the same Langford with either.

Before you pay

Verify the seller's address, phone number and email, pay with a method that has fraud protection, such as a credit card, and pick up and pay in person when you can. That is the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre's advice, which the guide repeats.

If you bought it online, the seller's return window is your friend

Check the window today. Some are only a few days long.

  • Is StockX legit? On its Listings Marketplace the shoe is checked only if you pay for verification.
  • Is GOAT legit? Thirty days from receipt to report a pair that is fake or not as described. Used pairs are final sale.
  • Is Grailed legit? 3 calendar days from receipt to report a piece that is fake or not as described.
  • Is Poshmark legit? 72 hours from the delivery scan to open a case, then the seller is paid.
  • Is Depop legit? 30 days from purchase to report a problem. Its protection covers 3 countries, not Canada.
  • Is The RealReal legit? Ask for a return within 14 days of the shipment date. A bag without its Return Guarantee is final sale.
  • Is SSENSE legit? 30 calendar days from delivery to ask for a return.
  • Is Farfetch legit? 30 days to send it back, and a Canadian order lands duty paid.
  • Is Cettire legit? A return must reach it within 14 days of delivery.

If you already paid and it turns out fake, destroy it or return it to the seller, the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre says, then report it to local police and to the centre. Where that comes from.
